Tasted by Mbad77 on 3/25/2023 & rated 92 points: This was a real surprise and a stunner. Bought at auction with no label left.
Still quite youthful and a beautiful nose. Fruit still very evident and soft tannins, yet some acidity and grip on the backend and a rather long finish.
Very much like a Bordeaux, though no green pepper and similar to a Isole Olena Collezione Privita. (776 views)
Tasted by Llamaquin on 2/7/2021 & rated 92 points: Lovely wine. Very smooth with jammy undertones. Wonderful drink. Probably at its best or just falling from its peak. (1961 views)
Tasted by Redteeth on 12/25/2020: Pulled this one out of the Science Closet for fun. We've owned this wine since release and its been stored pretty well. It was the last of several that we purchased. It was double decanted an hour or more before drinking with dinner. The cork was extremely fragile and there was a fair amount of sediment. But i could tell right away that the wine was going to be okay. It has lost a lot of fruit but was fun to drink. It kept opening up as the evening went on and still exhibited classic (but aged) Napa Characteristics. There was a bit left to try the next day. It was still good; perhaps better. This experience is consistent with many other old Robert Mondavi Cabs. that I've had the pleasure to try. They seem to hold up. Clearly this vintage is now a curio but it was still fun to drink on a special occasion. (1977 views)
Tasted by Philip67 on 10/24/2020 flawed bottle: I'm afraid these 90's bottles are shot. This one was cloudy amber and no longer drinkable. (2118 views)
Tasted by Coens on 8/21/2020 & rated 92 points: Augustus 2020: still really good, drink up to 2025? (2234 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 7/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Still delightful. Full of fruit with good secondary flavors. Not at all giving away its 25 year old self. (1840 views)
Tasted by Somm David T on 11/22/2018 & rated 91 points: This bottle came from the winery recently; which means its been stored perfectly and had little to no movement. With that said, it is still youthful 23 years later.

The fruits were ripe and beautiful. Blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, deep dark spice with heat that intensified the longer it was open and sat on the palate. The mouthfeel satiny but still showing structure and tannins. Crushed rock, leather, green bell pepper on the nose & palate; which usually says they had issues with the ripping of their fruit. All and all a good wine. Beautiful acidity with a balanced, elegant finished that persisted a very long time. (2112 views)
Tasted by om42 on 12/31/2016 & rated 91 points: Great development and still drinking very well although the magnum likely has slowed down the aging speed a bit. Lots of tertiary and secondary notes. Tannins fully integrated. (3886 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 7/31/2015 & rated 91 points: Very consistent with the previous bottles I've had. (5289 views)
Tasted by SoundinBetween on 3/4/2015: fully mature and drinking very nicely. hallmark nose with a hint of green bell pepper. tannins fully resolved and still has good fruit, though it's clear that fruit is starting to fade. in a year or two this will be substantially more tired, i'd expect. (5475 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 1/21/2015 & rated 93 points: JD's review is spot on. This is a marvelous aged Napa cab. Seamless, integrated and liquid suede. Probably at peak. What a QPR! (5593 views)
Tasted by Border Boss on 9/7/2014 & rated 92 points: Fill level into the neck and a perfect cork. The nose is amazing and room filling, cedar and flowers. The color is dark red with bricking causing a bit of dullness. Great flavors of red berries with fully integrated tannins, making for an easy drinking wine. Fully mature with years of life left. (5529 views)
Tasted by grumi62 on 9/4/2014 & rated 92 points: typical mondavi cab taste, medium body, nice color, well balanced. (2223 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 5/11/2014 & rated 91 points: A little bit corked, but still an outstanding experience! (1444 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 4/30/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous bottles... (2726 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 4/21/2014 & rated 91 points: Gorgeous nose (A-). Excellent Palate (B++). Amazing affordable aged California Cab. (2696 views)
Tasted by Loekkeboe on 4/11/2014 & rated 91 points: Classic cabernet sauvignon notes of cassis, graphite, ceder and lilac. Browning/watery rim. Deep red color.

Fill level close to mid neck - excellent!

Very good wine. (2452 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 3/29/2014 & rated 92 points: Gorgeous showing tonight! Definite crowd pleaser... (2293 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 3/21/2014 & rated 90 points: Excellent wine, but the nose is a little bit shy and thus this bottle was just not as good as good as the previous 2 bottles I had last month. (1789 views)
 Tasted by europat55 on 3/8/2014 & rated 92 points: Lovely.! (1577 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 2/21/2014 & rated 92 points: Very similar experience to what ArizonaWineGuy described in 2010 with a gorgeous nose and velvety palate. (1597 views)
Tasted by ArizonaWineGuy on 12/2/2010 & rated 91 points: Wow! Not sure who said this needed to be drunk by 2008, they were SO wrong. Dark brick red/purple color. The big nose says, " hello, I'm a Nap Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with lots of Rutherford grape juice". Velvety in the mouth, tannins mature and well integrated, cassis, chocolate, coffee, leather, and deep, rich earth expressed eloquently in the attack and evolution. Black truffles develop through the finish, which is quite long. Having with flank steak tonight, but this really is crying for a at juicy prime dry-aged ribeye. Life is good! (4395 views)
Tasted by willmark on 12/5/2009 & rated 85 points: 5th Dec 2009: i had low expectations of this wine after reading several of the impressions of this wine on this forum; most were not positive especially towards the end of the drinking window and for me 12 years after the vintage. However, i was pleasantly surprised that the wine continued to drink well. The fruits were subtle but the wine was quite balanced...enjoyable...would definitely buy more of these... (4612 views)
Tasted by Teamcrev on 9/15/2009 & rated 91 points: Drank a few nights ago...our only bottle. Wonderful dark fruits with tannins still prevalent. Unlike other reviewers, we think this has some time left in it. (4519 views)
Tasted by plasiter67 on 10/25/2008 & rated 90 points: OK - here we go... Color: Serious rich, dark deep purple color with slight bricking on the edge. Nose: Wonderful hints of plum, cherry, dried dark fruit and cedar on the nose. Mouthfeel: Medium body, intense flavors, silky smooth. Taste: Spice, plum, cherry and blackberry as well as a hint of licorice in there as well. In general, great structure was evident through serious transitions. Great balance, but as noted before, balance is what we have here since fruit is definitely fading. But, it has held up well and I enjoyed drinking this bottle over 3 days. I too recomend that if you've got it - drink it soon. (4778 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
