Chez moi

Such a vibrant and mineral wine, showing real class and extreme precision. Citrus galore here, and wine seems extremely young – although approachable. Great wine in the making, and I would wait for it a couple of years still. Provinence JR

Fat and somewhat oaky, Faiveley is Faiveley (still), but the acidity is bright and the balance is there in spite of the richesse; spicy, smoky, mineral – and of course much better and more open on day two. A real batard!

Dense, rich, concentrated; a creamy bees wax texture, oily with notes of honey. Very young. (provinence: Peter)

Petrol galore; surprisingly sweet, even a bit fat, the vintage speaks louder than the vineyard here. Creamy, well balanced and full, difficult to guess as a Clos St Hune, but top class, nevertheless

Brown colour, slightly oxidized. More dry and firm, more acidity here than in the 2000. It is a powerful, great vintage – but this bottle was going down

Quite oxidized, heavy, disjointed; a somewhat poor showing for this wine; too young, CP said (as he always does).

Very light in its colour, but dark in its oily minerality; flinty, intense, dry with just a hint of an exotic note. Magnificent wine, and I now see, why I more than once have guessed Chablis on the 2001 version of this.

Tasted vis-a-vis the 2000, and this is certainly great wine - but just loosing out, somewhat surprisingly. It seems a little bit more mature, a wee bit shorter and broader, but still a fant6asy of minerals.

Divine - nothing less - I knew this was a legend, but I have only tasted it once before, and tonight this was singing; everyone was guessing northern Rhône because of the cool, mineral style, that reveals itself initially, but with air this shows lots of local character, barnyard, sweet grenache, garrigue et al. Length is outstanding, and the freshness is quite unique. Singing now. #50extravaganza

Core of kirsch, mineral, lightness, elegant, intensity, still young, but very, very bright, precise and a point. Will keep 10 years, but hard to resist as of now. On the second day equally impressive with consistent notes.

Perfect cork, perfect fill; showing youthful and bright, quiet intense (though softer and more provencal than the VT), it is rich, with sweetness, garrigue, very much Grenache, very much neuf – but with no prunes or the like.

Certainly one of the better showings of this wine – and it is still young, There is fatness and creaminess but also tannins, tar, precision in the attack – a barolo as we like it, showing the great vintage. Great also two days later. Provinence: GL

Quite hard, tough in the attack; very young as well, lots to come here, it is flinty, mineral, and extremely concentrated. A great wine, but I still think this is a contradiction to what this domaine is and stands for.

A very true cab from the top shelf; cool, calm and collected, firm with persistent notes of blackberry and minerals. Tannins are still here, but maturity is approaching, all though fans of the more developed style will have to wait – the fruit is still primary. This is a grand wine and showed no signs of decline even after two days open.

Singing again – what a wine; very mourvèdre (mataro), very elegant, no signs of fatigue, it is intense though light on its feat with red berries still dominating over the more sauvage notes. Thank you, John (and thank you Paul Draper).

Sadlys, this was not op to par this evening; not corked, but a bit tired & one-dimenional. bad bottle, I fear. Tasted this ba couple of times before in my life, both memorable, so this was a dissapointment.

Earth, iodine, minerals, stone – and the fruit, oh the fruit, that lies there – this is nature in a bottle, the peasant’s rough and firm handshake, that covers the true, soft nature of his being – and it is much, much better on the second day, this one takes time to open; RIP Nöel Verset.

1999 Deutz Champagne Amour de Deutz Brut 95 Points
France, Champagne
Very feminine, elegant, very chardonnay en danseuse, creamy, precise – and quite long. Still young, but probably the best of the champagnes served

1999 Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 93 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Somewhat dark (in comparison), powerful, very delicious and somewhat broad and full, seems a point right now, don't see tit improving

1999 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année 95 Points
France, Champagne
Much more precise showing this time; it is clean, seems lighter, more refreshing, younger with only hints of the Bolinger-telltale coffee notes. Second only to Amour 99 on the evening.

1999 Henri Giraud Champagne Grand Cru Aÿ Fût De Chêne Brut
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Sweet and strange; hints of orangepeel, apple galore, vin nature, me thinks; fat and lacks structure - not a favorite tonight, but I have no real experience with this wine, so I am hesitant to judge.
