Been open for several days, kept cold. Still drinks fresh. Like last time, same cantaloupe flesh color. Melon, tangerine, bit of glycerine and hint of oily texture. Doesn't have a lot of zip, more about deeper flavor and weight.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières Roche aux Moines
A nice smooth texture, even with a bit of an oily note, with black licorice and a long, spicy and tangy finish. The finish was the upside for me, with great length and the only nit about the wine was the heavier texture.
Nice weight, even a bit heavier than I was expecting. Crushed rocks, sea shells, sweet lime...and with aeration, it did not move much. Kind of a lemon custard note and green apple but the sweet lime and size of the wine pesisted. Tasted next to the 07 Brocard Les Preuses and in this instance, where 1er v GC was side by side, the GC was preferred by nearly all who tasted it with me over dinner.
god, what a scary thought, to be the first guy in with a TN on a GC Chablis. Oh, the irony. Interesting showing. Lots of flint but also a fleshier mid-palate with apples, even a peach note. Doesn't (at least with this level of aeration) exhibit the cut and energy of some of the 1er cru stuff I have had lately. Full note to follow over dinner that occurs later today.....the wine needed air, as with it the wine tightened up, picked up some flint and green apple and the acidity really helped focus the wine. I judged this too early so decant. Excellent.

While I realy dig this wine, it wasn't a fair fight last night to wedge this bottle in around Chablis, pinot noir and zin--it just kind of stuck out as awkward. It was tasted next to the 2007 KB Keefer and 2005 KB Kanzler. And with the food it got paired with, we ought to have thrown it a life raft! Menthol and soy on the bouquet, with light pepper, too. Generous palate where the whole cluster still talks within the palate, along with dark fruit and some finishing chocolate.
Pulled spur of the moment to fill in behind the 07 KB Keefer which we drained pretty fast. This Kanzler, my last 05, shows cola nut, raspberry, blackberry and still has a nice core of acidity to connect the muscle of ripeness together. As I was drinking the wine, I pulled a bottle of asian 5 spice from the kitchen and in smelling the spice bottle, there is indeed also this kind of feel in the wine. This Kanzler is in a good place and with still some light acidity, it can live a bit longer but I think at this stage all the pieces are together and the wine is drink now.

This bottle came towards the end of the meal, tasted side by side with the 2006 Carlisle Bacchi zin. The Feeney was far better, showing real nice blue fruit and a cool sweet core. I wish I could have tried it again today as I didn't give it enough time to settle in.

Tasted next to the 2005 Carlisle Feeney. This Bacchi was not to the level or stature of that wine with the Bacchi tasting tight and young, a bit astringent on the finish. Tasted out of whack, meaning that the tannin and some of what seemed like barrel or wood tannin dominating the wine. Just seemed to lack the purity and expression of what I find in Mike's zins. Of note, we did not decant this wine and I would recommend that before drinking.
Big and flavorful. I got the tannin on this wine finally but it's not nearly as large and structured as the 2006. Dark like motor oil and a glass stainer.
Opened after I had pulled the 2007 and like the 2007, did not get much of a decant. The 2006 I think, will surely outlive the 2007, as it shows the chalk and structure, the muscles connecting the fruit to stand it up. With air, it starts to unfold and yes. The 2006 is a big wine, and I prefer it to the 2007. god, I still love petite and there ain't nothing better than Switchback when you want to knock the cover off the ball. Awesome.

2007 Lucien Crochet Sancerre La Croix du Roy

Bit grassy, like a lemongrass with melon, green apple, minerals and lemon. The weight was perfect--lithe and refreshing.

Some french oak spice still pokes through the bouquet but it adds a nice dimesion. Red apple, cherry, clove with nice balance and flavor.
