France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Spa-ish nose of white flowers and musk. Splash of wet pebbles, some viognier-marsanne-rousanne type beeswaxy oiliness but was quickly cut up by clean flowing white stone fruits. A very exhibitive white that is down my alley. Very good.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Enticing nose. Fuller and the most developed and full bodied white for the night. Layered and exhibiting good balance. White flowers, scented pears and white stonefruits with a good dose of richness.
Flowers and white musk like a moscato. Sweet smelling but on the palate, this is a dry clean crisp white with a touch of fattiness and olive oil. Unique.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Old furniture shop, teak, oak and cedar all packed into a roll of dried tobacco leaves. Lots of age on the nose . Dirty and dusty. Palate was still relatively holding up for its age with almost sweet black plums but still overladen with burg earthiness and dusty truffles. A time capsule of a wine albeit past its prime.
Tasted side by side with the clos de beze 76, this was explosive on aromas with bouquets upon bouquets of florals. Beautiful sweet red, black & blue florals with lots of blueberries, summer strawberries and pretty red raspberries. This is the type of feminine burgundy that so many fall in love over. Everyone was calling out for Chambolle and a grand cru no less. Delicious, lovable and likeable . How can anyone love burgundies after tasting wines like these. An excellent Volnay that punches along the weight class as a Chambolle GC.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Wow! 2 beautiful wines in its bloom in a row, this followed closely to the aromatics and flowery path of the 85 Volnay . Just as floral and with more delineation and structure which made all of us call out as a definite Chambolle GC! But lo and behold, we were all stumped yet again that this is no less a supposedly more serious structured commune that was not known for being so floral. But nonetheless, as much as terroir might not feel logical for this wine for whatever the reason, this was also a beauty as much as the Volnay was. Delicious palate, more sumptuous, weightier and bolder than the prior.
I had gotten a lot of leafy green capsicums notes which reminded me more of a wine with more cabernet franc in it , which probably meant a right bank or a left bank medoc - probably like a cantermerle. However, on revealing, I think the vintage does imprint itself quite a bit on this wine. Dont remember my montroses to be so leafy and cabbagey but didnt mind it. In fact, I thought it pretty delectable and not overbearing. Slim and slender , this wine needs to be drunk soon. Got some wet moist wood character too.
Meat and leather and some pain grille smokiness. Essentially sour black cherries dominating with lots of life left in it and quality of old rustic Italiano vino streaming in its firm strict structure. Very good terroir wine.
Dark brooding, jumpy black fruits, spice and lots of brambles. Powdery fine tannins. A little awkward at this stage . Some leather and tar. Feels like any modern Bordeaux or possible to pass as a moderate new world cab blend too. Not impressionable.
Didnt really remember this one that much on a night with many stars. This just came across as very tannic and hard . Either needing more time and too tightly woven though does feel like something with quality lurking in the background. Leather, tar, brambly dark spiced fruits. Should be better with time.
Suprisingly good! And very memorable... this brought me back to moments when I had the 85 vintage Veuve clicquot rose. This has shades of that glorious moment with the very layered and expressionful rose. Aged nuances come through , weighty yet delicate. Enticing and still fresh but mature with seriousness. Delicious and soulful yet spritely.
