Introduction

Have created a group - SIMPLY WINES in facebook for the sake of sharing, communicating between wine lovers etc etc as well as organizing wine events. Thus thinking to organize a small event to have some photos to upload for the group. Thus the lunch.

Being spoiled by lots of Pinot lately, so we decided to have some Bordeaux. Interestingly, we have quite a spread with a Italian Vino Tavola, Left and Right bank and a rare New York Long Island Chard!

As usual, the food in Asia Grand, delicious and the price remain fair.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2004 Lenz Chardonnay Old Vines

    USA, New York, Long Island, North Fork

    Alcohol : 13%
    P&P. Lovely bright med golden color. Puligny Montrachet like soft aromas with lemony fruits, mineral and herb that is elegant and precise, lovely. However the palate is kind of disjointed with its high acid spine, sweet lemony fruits and oak falling apart with light finish. This does improved (60mins) and start to come around with better balance, better integration of the oak (though still present and I doubt this will fully integrated) with fresh, almost creamy palate that drinking quite well with medium length spicy finish. The fresh and vibrant character make this a good palate cleanser too! Buy - No.

  • 1993 Vieux Château Certan

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Alcohol : 12.5%
    P&P - My 2nd bottle and this is clearly a better version. Dark brick core with light rim. Mature, soft bouquet of plum, mineral and flower along with secondary note of dry tea leaves and earth that is expressive. Still very fresh and vibrant on the palate, with light plum, earth and hint of dry herb that the finish is soft with hint of wood and spice. The structure has fully mellow down which resulted on very smooth, silky mouth feel. This is not a blockbuster nor highly complex wine that give you a punch but clearly a classic mature claret from a weak vintage that provide pleasurable drinking experience with it's fresh and vibrant profile. More over, the wine hold itself and slowly gain some weights over the 3hours lunch with coffee aftertaste. Drink up. Buy - Yes.

  • 2001 Tenuta San Leonardo San Leonardo

    Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

    Alcohol :: 13%
    Tasted Blind. P&P. This show very Bordeaux like aromas that is fresh and deep with its tobacco, coffee, mint, black currant and plum fruits, but the palate is disjointed, hollow with slight alcoholic finish. Glad that the palate has improved drastically after around 45mins in the bottle, though still primary, it already show some complexity. Fresh, high acid entry that is juicy and ripe with clean blackberry fruits and tobacco note all framed beautifully with its silky fresh tannins leads to juicy chewy medium length finish. A well-made wine that is showing nicely for the day though this doesn't posses the structure of 2001 vintage and lacks breed. Drink for the next 5-7yrs. Buy - No.

  • 1998 Château Monbousquet

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    Still very dark in color that boost high toned coffee notes that always the tell-tale aromas of Monbousquet with Inkish notes wrapped by spices, blackberry, ripe plum and added more complexity and depth with earth and new saddle leather which all carry on to the palate with good richness and concentration of luscious dark fruits and cinnamon flavor that remain fresh and bright with fine grained tannins leads to long juicy finish with again, grounded coffee note and mineral that's linger with blackberry sourness. This well-balance, structure wine show good depth and start to sing with oak start to integrate after 2.5hours in decanter. Will hold for at least another 3yrs for the wine to further develop in the bottle. Buy - Maybe (Sadly, as the price has heading north yr by yr)

  • 2007 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Alcohol :: 8.5%
    Light straw yellow. Aromatic nose display yellow floral with ripe banana, peaches and apricot with touch of mineral. Rich and opulent palate with ripe tropical fruits that the fleshy body support by medium level acidity with some what disjointed, light sweet finishing. This bottle has again, re-assured that JJP is not a wine to be drunk young. Far from ready, maybe another 10yrs? Buy - No.

Closing

Really enjoy the day with no let down in the line up. The wine that I can keep drinking is the VCC 1993. Who said weak vintage should skip? This is drinking nicely when we waiting for the better vintage, say, 95 or 96 or even 2000s to come along :) Special thanks to ED for his 2007 JJP WS SPAT.
