Martin's House

In your face smell of bananas, those ripe little red bananas you get in tropical locations, like Costa Rica, that just kick the ass of all the bananas you get here. smells a bit like Fortnum & Masons's Christmas Jam. Banana Cupkae, spiced meatloaf. Short: LEGENDARY NOSE. On the palate the wine falls short unfortunately, rather short, and unbalanced acidity.

This was the only wine that fell a bit short of the standard here. But again this had a very nice and interesting nose. Chamomile, porcini, cedar, cigar, tons of cigar, lots of edges and a bit rough in the palate. This could be Winston Churchill in a bottle :-)

Classic Bordeaux nose, leather, stables smell, vanilla, licorice, round and fat. Plums, caramel. I guessed that this was a 2000 Pape Clement...

This is dangerously ripe, with dried grapes, gingerbread, sushi... funky stuff...

Lots of cinnamon, round, soft and long. Very well balanced from start to finish. This is at it's peak now but might have less than 10 years of life ahead...

Blackcurrant, deep black color, milk chocolate, prunes, lots of tanins, and nice sweetness. Good stuff but needs more time.

Lots of botrytis, yellow fruit, a bit a sugary type of sweetness, lots of saffron, which always hints that it is La Tour Blanche (by the way... you got to love that label...)

This has developed very well. Floral, acetate, freshly toasted bread, very long in the palate, caramel, black tea, candied fruits.

Floral, apricot, honey, very sweet, balanced acidity, melon and creme brulée, alcohol is not all that well integrated.

2001 Grans-Fassian Trittenheimer Riesling Kabinett 89 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Petrol, honey, beeswax, lots of acidity slighlty overpowering the sweetness of the wine. This shows how well also Kabinetts can age. Another 10+ years ahead of it's life!

2001 Weingut Robert Weil Riesling Spätlese 92 Points
Germany, Rheingau
Petrol, but that fades with a little bit of air. citrus, fresh, honey, molasses, a bit "rough" in a way but also very smooth, which makes no sense but that's kind of what it tastes like. very long and very elegant. Good stuff!
