My home - Chicago IL

Had some of my friends from my burg tasting group, the Lieu-dit Cru, over for dinner. Joining us were Jim and Raylene Lester from Michigan's Wyncroft Winery, a producer of shockingly good quality Pinot Noir, Cabernet blends and other wine.
Slightly floral with red and black cherry aromas. Similar fruit on palate, a bit hidden for now behind firm tannins and assertive acidity. Good upside potential above the "89" but I can't be 100% certain where/when this will all balance.

Great ripe red cherry on nose and palate. Drinking well now, very nice balance and textures. Most likely best to drink in the next 5 years.

Great floral start shows the Dujac whole cluster style well. Palate shows more ripe fruit than does the nose. Red and black cherry flavors with moderate spice. Just entering its peak drinking window. Perhaps not showing Grand Cru density.

Mostly balck cherry with some red cherry hints around the edges. Very dense and meaty with just a little spice. Impressive fruit for Villages level wine for now, it will be interesting to see if more complexity or nuance develops over time. No hurry to drink this young, it will last a long time.

Black cherry aromas and flavors with some background floral notes, along with espresso and cocoa smells. Big styled Gevrey, really shows 2002 well with assertive tannins and acid that help provide power, energy and length. Probably better after 2010.

Black cherry and blackberry on nose. Very concentrated fruit on palate, which doesn't seem particularly ripe but yet very deep and intense. To me, somewhat of an unusual character for Burgundy.

Red and black cherry with great spice aromas from both fruit and generous amount of new oak. Some earthy evolution starting to come through, this is entering its peak drinking window but has the substance to last another decade.

Fresh red cherry aromas with some fresh herbs in background. Good quality fruit with also good concentration. Good acidity, ok tannins, I'm not sure where this wine will develop over the next few years but it's drinking nicely now...and it's from Michigan. Kudos to Jim and Raylynn for that!

Very impressive Bordeaux blend for Michigan. Good dense black fruit on nose with some barnyardy character (from Cab Franc?). Rich and ripe fruit on palate with good spice to start, slightly hollow in the middle, but fruit and spice finish this off nicely at the end. Impressive for its source.

Open, decanted, and returned to bottle 5 hours before serving. Wonderful young Burgundy. Just starting to show some earth, this has great spice accompanying rich, sweet cherry flavors. Great texture and length. Still improving. Another rare ’96 showing well now. 94 points. My WOTN, tied for consensus WOTN.

Ripe fruit with tons of blackberry, black cherry that still have powerful primary flavors. Fantastic sweet tannins support and lengthen the finish. Great now, but with good life remaining. 93 points. Tied for consensus WOTN.

Very 2003. Ripe fruit, mostly sweet cherry with some candied character. Big tannins overwhelm everything for now. I won’t open another bottle for another ten years, 89 points, with big upside potential to be better than that longer-term.

2000 Prager Riesling Smaragd Achleiten 90 Points

Aromas and flavors of apple, slightly lean with lots of minerality, a bit bone-shakingly dry and acidic. Give this a few more years.
