Barely there nose. Taut with lovely red fruit core. Some mid-palate sweetness but finishes dry. Great summer drinking.

Some slightly beetroot-y flavours in there amongst the dark fruit. Grippy tannins.

Looks older than it is but the nose is still tight. Massive wine, completely envelopes the palate and hard work now but should develop nicely. Drink 2014+

Orange rim. Lots of vegetal aromas - smells like a Bloody Mary! Earthy, complex palate - and still some tannin. Long, beguiling finish.

Brambly nose. Sweet, spicy fruit. Fresh as a daisy despite its age and amazing length. Brilliant; wine of the night.

Smells like gingerbread! A blend of 20 different grapes, apparently. Interesting to taste but difficult to get a handle on and not sure I'd finish a glass of it. Long.

A pinot in the classic mould but also distinctive. Lots of vegetal flavours. Very fresh. Long.

No fruit left - meaty, savoury flavours dominate the palate. Pretty dried out but interesting.

A little lean and green - bad bottle, perhaps? - the 1986 tasted alongside was more impressive.

Dense and savoury but some sweet fruit buried in there as well. Drink 2014+

Raw, meaty nose. Palate is classic and correct but not that distinctive.

Smells much cleaner than the NSG tasted alongside. Still some fruit lurking in there. Some sweetness too. Long finish.

Very Brett-y nose. But palate still fresh. Great length.

Earthy nose with a little freshly polished wood. Oak a little prominent but there's some gorgeous fruit in there.

Very pale; almost rosé. Sweet, crunchy fruit and quite a bit of structure. Reasonable for <£12.

2009 Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault
Lots of lovely stone fruit flavours. A bit of sweetness through the mid-palate but finishes dry. Excellent.

2009 Domaine Thomas Morey Bourgogne Blanc
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Textbook stuff but not much by way of distinguishing features and not worth £16.

2008 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Decent apple and lime core but lacks steeliness - a touch flabby, even. Premier Cru Chablis from this vintage should be better than this; bad bottle, perhaps?

2008 Buisson-Charles Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Rich, complex nose - some banana and grapefruit in there?! Palate much more straightforward - buttery and plenty of fruit but not that exciting; I think you're entitled to expect more from a £40 Meursault.

2002 Domaine Roger Belland Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Dense and nutty palate. Serious wine but perhaps not revealing it's full potential - needs decanting?

2009 Bergström Chardonnay Old Stones
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Green apple and lime aromas. Crunchy fruit but also some interesting savoury flavours. Much more interesting than the white burgundies but not cheap at >£30.

2008 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay Wild Boy Bien Nacido Vineyard
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
Rich and round but a little oaky for me. Well made though.
