Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 90 points

  • Attractive aromas of caramel and apples. Full palate, with flavors of butter and spice. Vanilla laden lingering finish. The wood is obviously present, but well integrated. Classic white burgundy profile, and playing well above the level of a simple bourgogne - it can put to shame many loftier Burgundies that sell for twice its low 20's price. I do wish that it had more backbone, especially mid palate. And while it has the grace of great white burgundy, it lacks the complexity.

Nevertheless, I'm so thrilled to find a bottle that is both affordable and tastes like top quality Burgundy, I'm willing to bend my grading curve a little and rate this wine as outstanding.

  • The shop hadn't even put it on display yet, they had to pull it from the back on my request. Perhaps they were trying to let it settle from travel. I brought it home and drank immediately, it was not good. Travel sickness? Maybe. I have another bottle resting comfortably for a few weeks, we shall see. I don't want to rate this as it may have been flawed or in shock but I recall it being an 82pt mess.

I spoke with the retailer who was recently pouring it at the bar and they said it was well received. Perhaps I will open the 2nd bottle soon and find out.

  • Roberson Summer Walkabout Tasting 2011 (London): Textbook stuff but not much by way of distinguishing features and not worth £16.
