Light red center, pale edge. Earthy, briary nose. Nice light cherry and strawberry notes with earthy, brambly, tannic finish that is quite dry. This could only be Burgundian Pinot Noir.

Light to medium color. Green and anise aromatics. Light weight, black fruit, sappy core of tar and creosote. Light but lively and harmonious with crackling acidity and just a hint of back end tannic austerity and bitterness.

Fairly deep color. Some licorice and smoke. Middle weight, cool fruit, a moderate whiff of oak char, excellent acidity. The flavors are not that interesting or well developed, but the material and balance are good for a wine at this level

Light red. Complex aromatics of earth and red fruit with floral tones as well. Attractive, clean red fruit, lots of soil, snappy acidity and a little tannic bite that is hardly surprising for its age. I liked this a lot.

Medium ruby. Baked earth scents. Medium weight with sappy center, slightly candied but not overripe black cherry fruit, very good length, round tannins and a strongly earth-inflected back end. Very Nuits and great quality for a village wine.*

Full ruby. Very bacony aromatics-is this Burgundy or Cote Rotie? Not heavy but very mouthcoating, suave feel. Mixed fruit, a touch of green, pronounced high char oak, smooth tannins and excellent balancing acidity. Lots of stuffing, but alas, lots of wood too, and I wonder if it will ever relax its grip on the wine.

Medium ruby. Tart red fruit on the nose. Nice, integrated middle weight feel with savory elements, earth, some herbs, noticeable but not overbearing wood, fine acidity, and a moderately tannic finish. Unlike some 2008s, this has excellent buffering material to stand up to the acidity and is likely to benefit from several more years of bottle aging. That said, not as backward as I expected for a Grand Cru from this vintage, and for the lofty price, it is pretty short on excitement.

2010 Francine et Olivier Savary Chablis
France, Burgundy, Chablis

Really nice AC Chablis. A little fatter than the Fourchaume from this producer tasted last week, but still with admirable focus and salinity.

2010 Domaine Barat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons

Light yellow. Some brothiness and solid acidity but too much wood for my taste. I don't believe I've ever had a wine from Barat before.

2010 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Séchets
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Pale. Classic Chablis aromas of seashell and orange peel. The bright citrus fruit rather than minerality dominates the palate. Excellent volume and flesh for the site, and overall, terrific balance. Unexpectedly fine and well worth buying.

2010 Trénel Fils Mâcon-Villages Hommage à André Trénel
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages

Medium yellow. Ripe pear, citrus and a touch of wood. Round entry but excellent minerality and acidity giving a leaner, quite focused back end. Excellent Maconnais wine.

2009 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault En La Barre
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
(12/15/2012)
Medium color. Dominant sulfur on the nose. Medium weight, downplayed fruit, most definitely not too ripe. Again, some sulfur mutes the flavors, but it is easy to appreciate salinity, good acidity and a soil-filled finish. Much more structured than a prototypical 2009.
