Dark ruby-purple. Plum, dark fig, chocolate, cassis and scents of cedar on the nose. Full-bodied, massive but soft tannins, very rich and ripe fruit, nice acidic lift and good length. Drinkable with some aging potential.

Medium straw with golden hues. Attractive nose of ripe apricot, white peach, honeysuckle and subtle oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich, with generous fruit, balancing acidity and a long aftertaste. After this producer's viognier-like malagousia, it was nice to taste his equally good or even better real viognier.

One of the best reds of the show. Dark purple. Sweet nose of ripe blackberry, sweet spice, sour cherry jam and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, dense and creamy with velvety tannins and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. Very good value given the quality.

If the term "good value Burgundy" sounds paradoxical to you, give this a try. Elegant nose of green apple, pear and citrus fruit. Medium-bodied and quite generous on the palate with balance, nice fruit concentration and freshness. Satisfying aftertaste.

Rich, dense and generous without being heavy or cloying, with mellon, nectarine and sweet oak. Full-bodied and rich, yet balanced with a long aftertaste. A wine to shame many a premier cru white burgh.

A great showing for this, especially given the mediocricy of the vintage. Very expressive on the nose with ripe and candied cherry, esspresso roast and earthy minerality. On the palate it is of medium+ body with firm tannins, multi-layered fruit and medium to high acidity. Long aftertaste. Great Chianti Classico.

This was tasted after 3 top 2009 clarets (Haut Brion, La Mission Haut Brion and Margaux) and still tasted great. Stunning nose of cedar, esspresso, cassis, cherry and earthy minerality. Medium-bodied, on the elegant side, with firm texture and excellent balance. Some years ago, the Guado Al Tasso seemed to have no chance to ever rank among the top Bolgheri reds like Sassicaia and Ornellaia, but starting from the 2007 vintage this started to change. The good news is that while it is approaching them in terms of quality it still keeps the distance in terms of price.

Medium straw. Expressive and attractive nose of roasted almonds, tart apple, citrus fruit and noticeable minerality. Medium-bodied, nice fruit concentration and freshness, balancing acidity and a long aftertaste. Forward and enjoyable Meursault.

2009 Château Haut-Brion 97 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Huge wine, extremely focused, tight and restrained at this stage. Very dark ruby, almost opaq with subtle aromas of tobacco, ink, chocolate and cedar. Full-bodied, tight but showing enormous power and fruit concentration alongside massive, fine-grained tannins and balancing acidity. Very long aftertaste. Still a baby or even foetus, will require patience to start unfolding.

2009 Château La Mission Haut-Brion 95 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Similar to the Haut-Brion from the same vintage at this stage, focused, tight and powerful with evident oak, massive fruit and tannins and a very long aftertaste. Needs long cellaring.

2009 Château Margaux 99 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Unlike La Mission Haut Brion and Haut Brion from the same vintage alongside which it was tasted, this was extremely expressive and forward. Color is less dark compared to the other two, but still dark ruby-purple. Stunning nose of what makes a great Margaux: cedar, graphite cassis, esspresso roast, florals and noble animal notes. Continuously evolving with aeration. Medium to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, perfect balance and great depth. Long aftertaste. Already extremely enjoyable. A beauty in every sence of the word.

2007 Viña Almaviva S.A. Almaviva 92 Points
Chile, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto
This was opened because during the Bordeaux 2009 tasting, somebody said that The Haut Brion and La Mission Haut Brion could have been originated from anywhere, including California or Chile. So a top Chilean cab was opened for comparison. After comparing the wines I guess this guy would have prefered swallowing his tongue instead of saying what he said. This was sweet-ish with dak fig, chocolate, blackberries, tobacco leaf and eucalypt on the nose. Full-bodied on the palate with fully resolved tannins, sweet fruit, moderate acidity and long aftertaste. No similarity between this and the two aforementioned Bordeaux was noticed.
