Introduction

Not in the league of the IV event. No wine of the year candidates on this one. I did find out I will not be buying Chateau Palmer as there are far superior Left Bank Wines for much less. Excellent food.

Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • 2008 La Loge De Courtoux (Christine de Mianville) Jasnières Chant de Vigne 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Jasnières

Nice wine with floral, orange peel, minerals and pear. Good acidity and medium finish. Drink now.

  • 2002 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut 90 Points

    France, Champagne

Underwhelming effort and not as good as the N.V. I sample Wednesday night. Lemon, minerals and apple. Lacks depth and complexity. Hold and hope it gets better.

  • 1996 Château Palmer 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Vibrant nose on the initial examination. Pencil lead, tobacco, blueberries, cherry and bell pepper which blew off in 10 minutes. Wine was nice but took a turn for the worse after about 25 minutes. Based on this experience consume over the next 5 years.

  • 1985 Château Palmer 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Worst QPR wine of the year! This was like drinking dirty water. While I liked the mushrooms, pine tar and damp earth up front this feel to pieces and was a disappointment. No fruit present in this wine which was not the case for the 1985 Margaux which was youthful in comparison. I will not be drinking a Palmer anytime soon unless someone brings it on their dime.

  • 1985 Château Margaux 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Excellent and wine of the night. Blueberries, cherry, dust, gravel and stones. Nice charcoal element on the palate and super long, concentrated finish. This should be enjoyed now but it might not hurt to hold for a few years. Decanted 4 hours.

  • 1995 Château Margaux 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Still a baby. Decanted 4 hours which certainly helped open it up. Cassis, chocolate, gravel and plums. Nice fruit showing through the oak/vanilla. Should balance out really well in a decade so hold! 93 to 96.

  • 2000 Château Rauzan-Ségla 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

I liked this wine better than the others and so much more than the Palmer wines. Some heat which blew off. Raspberries, stones, blackberries, dark cherries and oak. On the finish adds a nice vanilla element. Medium to long finish and still an infant. Decanted 4 plus hours.

  • 2000 Château Giscours 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Not a big Giscours fan but this was drinking well. Funk, spices, a little heat and floral notes. Medium finish and needs some more time in the cellar. Could improve over time.

  • 2000 Château Malescot St. Exupéry 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

A bit under impressed with this wine. Tight and oaky. Pepper, boysenberries, cedar and earth. Medium finish and some heat detected. Hold.

  • 1988 Château d'Yquem 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Wonderful showing with apricots, honeysuckles, golden delicious apples, spices and stones. Long and powerful finish. Should age for a very long time. Excellent but expensive.
