France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
From magnum. I liked this wine shortly after release, but it is so much better now. Lemon, lemon peel and lemon curd with some ginger, white pepper and toasted nut. Layers of flavor unfold as the wine evolves in glass. Best taste was the very last 3 hours after first opened. Wow.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Open 30 minutes before serving. Incredible baking spice and ripe red berry aromas, then same flavor profile. Incredibly elegant, this is prototypical RSV to me, from a young and fresh vintage. Shines beautifully now, good potential to add nuance going forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Popped and poured, this really needed 30-45 minutes in glass to really shine, and kept improving throughout the time in glass (no surprise). All black fruit with meaty and sauvage notes throughout. Ripe and powerful fruit with slightly sweet spice hints.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
We had this is carafe for 45 minutes before tasting , but that wasn't quite enough. This wine kept changing and unfolding in both exciting and confusing ways over the next two hours. Always showing some faint rose hints, this also showed cocoa, re berry, red cherry, black cherry, cherry liqueur, anise, baking spice, white pepper and much more through its evolution. I enjoyed this wine greatly at each point in its evolution tonight and have complete confidence it will be stunning in the right setting 2020 forward. 93 or better tonight, 94-95 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
This was incredibly shut down vs when tasted approx one year ago. Aromas were good, palate showed so little. This was glorious one year ago and when tasted earlier in the HN cellar. Today's bottle was a shadow of those. I could be convinced it was slightly corked based on my own experience with this wine, but others enjoyed this wine tonight, so I will reserve judgment.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
I rarely drink young Chapelle-Chambertin , particularly when we will have to pop-and-pour, but this proved me wrong tonight. Red berries throughout with incredible freshness. Concentration that didn't show weight and dominating structure, this was fun and accessible from the start.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
4th or 5th time I've had this wine, but not for 5+ years. This is simply stunning, with lots of mature red cherry, raspberry with roasted game, braised meat spice and overall incredible elegance. Great now, i would expect this to hold for at least another decade+.
