Flight 1 - STARTERS (4 Notes)

With cheese and pate.

  • 1993 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Mont 91 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Seems to be ever so slightly effected by some oxidation, but not anything that would want me to dump my glass. Waxy, a bit of lanolin and wool, mixed with nice tropical fruit. Good tension here. Quite good.

  • 2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Mont 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Just like the 1993 served along side, this had a slight bit of oxidation to it, but much like its older sibling, not enough to put me off. Nice peachy, quince and wooly notes. No fireworks, but still enjoyable.

  • 2005 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Clos du Bourg Flawed

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Seemed to have a bit of cork taint when first opened, but not quite sure. After a few minutes, it got worse. No mistakes about it. Darn!

  • 1995 Papin-Chevalier Savennières Doux La Pierre de Coulaine 95 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières

At first this came across as syrupy and one-dimensional, although still wonderfully delicious and a wonderful accompaniment to cheese and pate. Thank goodness, however, we put some aside to try later in the evening as this improved remarkably... gaining complexity, nuance, acidity and even some minerality. Although it slimmed down a bit, it was still exuberantly rich and unctuous. This held its own against a 1989 Huet Cuvee Constance, which is high praise indeed. An explosion of flavors on the palate. Still youthful at 30 years of age and I will let my last bottle age until...???

Flight 2 - MAIN (2 Notes)

WIth baked sea bass.

Flight 3 - DESSERT (2 Notes)

With apricot and pluot tart.

  • 1989 Domaine Huet Vouvray Cuvée Constance 97 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Such a monumental wine. A quarter of a century old, yet still vigorous and full of life. A concentrated elixir of apricot, honey, quince, orange marmalade and assorted rich tropical fruit. A sneaky hint of minerals is able to poke through the wealth of honeyed, fruity goodness. Lengthy, tangy, clingy finish. For all its weight, it remains lively, energetic and clean. Outrageously good.

  • 1989 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux Réserve 1ère Trie 96 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Served alongside the 1989 Huet Cuvee Constance, this actually outperformed that legendary wine on my first few sips. A monument of a wine, with super ripe apricots, savory quince and lip smacking, palate cleansing acids. This did have an ever so slight "dirty" note on the nose, but the palate was clean. The 1989 Huet, however, got better with air and overtook this wine, while this "only" maintained. I had this bottling a couple of years back where it was more electric, but this was still insanely delicious.
