We all had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought and also not when the wine we brought ourselves was poured. So all wines were tasted fully blind.
In the bouquet dark berries, herbs and spices, licorice and cigar. On the palate dark forest fruits like blackberries and blueberries, green herbs and sweet spices, some cherries, sweet licorice, mint, earth, good acidity and tannin with still some bite. Overall a mature and quite complex wine and no real hurry.

This evening the bouquet was not very expressive. With some effort I could discover chocolate, some tea, minerals and even some graphite. On the palate however the wine was really juicy with dark forest fruits like blackberries and blueberries, chocolate, licorice, some earth and autumn impressions like mushrooms. Good acidity and slightly sticky tannin and pleasant bitterness. Fully mature and the wine will probably stay on this level for some time, but no real reasons to wait any longer. Score for this evening 90 (maybe 91, but I will put 90 in CT.)

The bouquet is a bit floral with herbs and sweet spices, some licorice, tea, espresso and a bit rustic. On the palate chocolate, sweet spices, sweet licorice and some raisins. A slight touch of sweetness, good acidity and round tannin with a soft bite. Beautiful wine and fully mature now. No real hurry, but it will not really improve anymore.

In the bouquet dark forest fruits, chocolate, cigar, earth and some (horse) barnyard. On the palate dark and red berries, plums, dark chocolate, sweet spices, firm but good and juicy acidity and fairly soft, round tannin with still some bite, and also a bit drying. Ready now and no real hurry.

The bouquet is a bit perfumed with flowers, ripe dark fruits, cerise, oak, some leather and smoke. On the palate blackberries and cherries, chocolate, a nice balance between (firm) acidity and sweetness and tannin with still a good bite. Beautiful already, but this wine can last a few years as well.

Beautiful bouquet with luxurious oak, dark berries, flowers, chocolate, some sweetness and some of the tasters also noticed tea. On the palate a delicious slightly sweet start with beautiful dark and red forest fruits, some herbs and licorice. Beautiful acidity and soft/round tannin with a good bite. Good length. Really beautiful wine which combines concentration and elegance in a beautiful way. Although still youthful, delicious already. Will drink well until into the 2020’s. 93 - 94 for this evening.

Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits and dark cherries, luxurious oak, flowers, chocolate, leather and some earth. On the palate dark forest fruits, cherries, minerals, dark chocolate, salty licorice, vanilla, a touch of sweetness, beautiful acidity and round tannin with still a good bite. There is room for a bit more. Probably wise to wait until 2020+ 92 - 93+ for this evening.

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows some red fruits, flowers and autumn impressions. On the palate a mouth filling wine with red berries, chocolate, sweet spices, roses, mint and sweet licorice. Good acidity and round, fairly soft tannin with still a good bite. In fact the wine is still a bit too young. Wait until 2017/18.

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows some toasty oak, earth and rustic flavors. On the palate red and dark berries, green herbs, chocolate and tobacco. There is firm and juicy acidity and the tannin is a bit green. Overall certainly a very good wine, but it can use some additional cellaring. 2019+?

The color of this wine is already conspicuous garnet brown. In the bouquet it is beautifully elegant and floral with red fruits, earth and autumn impressions. On the palate red berries, chocolate and some coffee. Beautiful acidity, firm but mild tannin and a good length. Not sure about the ageing potential, but it is an excellent wine now.

Very transparent orange brown color. In the bouquet tea, autumn impressions, nuts, barnyard, tobacco, some leather, lovage and barnyard. On the palate chocolate, cold coffee, mushrooms, currants and raisins. Completely melted tannin. Very mature alright, but still drinkable and even not really unpleasant, but even complex. For me personally too old, but I can imagine there are people who like these really tertiary impressions. The wine itself is still ok. No score.

2000 Fontanafredda Barolo 88 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
The bouquet is a bit floral with still some cherries, rose hips, some dark fruits, herbs, and licorice. On the palate still cherries, some earth and autumn impressions, dark chocolate, coffee, firm acidity, a slight touch of sweetness, slightly sticky tannin, firm bitterness and a good length. Quite mature and maybe even some bite for a little more ageing, but overall the wine lacks a bit in body, roundness and finesse.
