Introduction

We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted blind.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2003 Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) Le Dix de Los Vascos 88 Points

    Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley

PnP the bouquet is not really expressive, but there are some dark forest fruits. On the palate a juicy wine with dark forest fruits, some chocolate, sweet spices and some bell pepper. Ok acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Well structured wine. Ready now, but certainly a future of a few years.

  • 2009 Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) Le Dix de Los Vascos 88 Points

    Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but there are dark berry fruits, licorice and eucalyptus. On the palate dark berry fruits as well, sweet spices, graphite a touch of sweetness balanced by good acidity. An ok full bodied wine. Early maturity now and probably a bit better around 2016 – 2017. 88+ for tonight.

  • 2005 Château d'Aussieres Corbières Blason d'Aussières

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Corbières

  • 2008 Château d'Aussieres Corbières 87 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Corbières

The bouquet is still locked, but there are dark forest fruits and mocha. On the palate ripe red berry fruits like strawberry and also ripe black fruits. A touch of metal, brown spiced biscuit, mild acidity and tannin. Ok wine but I am not overly impressed. Maybe with some more age on it?? 87+ for tonight.

Flight 4 (3 Notes)

  • 2007 Blason de l'Evangile 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Ripe red and black berry fruits, some sweetness and laurel in the bouquet. On the palate dark fruits, minerals like graphite, chocolate, licorice, earth and beautiful oak. Good acidity and round tannin. Lacking a bit in concentration to be great. The wine is mature and in a really nice drinking stage now. No real hurry though.

  • 2000 Blason de l'Evangile 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Second time I drink this wine blind this year. See also previous note. This time the wine showed more luxury and complexity with autumn and mushroom impressions. Leather, tobacco and cigar box beside the black forest fruits in the bouquet. Same on the palate with a lot of chocolate and also mocha and coffee, good acidity and melted tannin. This bottle shows more maturity compared to previous bottle and it came from the same source.

  • 1994 Château L'Evangile 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Very rustic bouquet with a lot of barnyard, but also mature cassis, mushrooms and leftovers of luxurious oak. On the palate a fully mature wine with still some red fruit acidity, earth and beautiful oak. A beautifully mature and elegant wine, but lacking the concentration and bite to be really great. Nevertheless still a score of 91. Drink soon.

Flight 5 (3 Notes)

  • 2010 Château Peyre-Lebade 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Ripe black berry fruits like cassis, mint and graphite in the bouquet. On the palate cassis and graphite again, bell pepper, good acidity and sticky tannin. A classical wine with a good concentration. Not showing much luxury in this stage. Wait at least until 2017. 88+ for tonight.

  • 2006 Château Clerc Milon 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Ripe dark forest fruits, smoke, tobacco, cedar, cassis, minerals like graphite and coffee in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Some chocolate as well. Good acidity and soft tannin with a good bite. This is a beautiful Pauillac. In my mind Clerc Milon is always a classical and powerful wine, but this bottle was so elegant. Really a nice, refined and complex wine. Early maturity stage and already open now. This bottle has probably been stored a bit too warm and has evolved quickly, but I have a few myself so there will be a follow up. 91 – 92+

  • 2009 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Beautiful and luxurious, complex bouquet with black forest fruits, cedar and beautifully toasted oak. On the palate ripe black berry fruits, cedar, cigar box, a lot of sweetness (for a Bordeaux), beautiful oak, beautiful acidity and round but powerful tannin. A lovely and complex second wine. Still in its primary and open stage, but already showing what it has in store. I love it. 92+

Flight 6 (3 Notes)

  • 2003 Château Rieussec 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Drank from a 0.375 bottle and just limited notes. A lot of orange peel and caramel in the bouquet as well as the taste. Concentrated and good botrytis and acidity. Still very youthful. 93 - 94

  • 1999 Château Rieussec 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Drank from a 0.375 bottle and just limited notes. A beautiful wine with good botrytis, some orange peel and good acidity. Honey was very evident in both the nose as the mouth. Less opulent than the 2003 we tasted beside this, but still a youthful and beautiful wine.

  • 1997 Château Rieussec 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Drank from a 0.375 bottle and just limited notes. The most elegant wine compared to the 1999 and 2003 we tasted beside this. Sweetness of course, but also a firm amount of good acidity. Caramel and some pear as well. Beautiful wine with elegance, but not sure if this is for the really long term. Until 2020 definitely no problem.
