Dinner with the same friend who liked this wine the last time I had it as described in my note of 6/23/2016. I perceived this wine had just a bit more fruit this time around, hence the slightly higher score. Otherwise consistent with that note.

Clearly a second wine. Good color, no bricking yet. Nose, however, was muted, not as much dark fruit as one would expect even considering that it is a second wine given the fame of this Pomerol estate. In the mouth, fairly austere, again not a lot of fruit. Balance was fine, and the wine was enjoyable with the prime rib. While I was a little disappointed, my dinner guest was thrilled. He consistently rails about the so-called "Parkerites" (his label, not mine, as I like RMP) who have ruined Bordeaux wines by making them too fruit forward. I am not sure age will do anything more for this wine so I will drink my other bottles whenever he and I get together.

Weekly tasting group #138; Rothschild (@ WW): Ripe red and black berry fruits, some sweetness and laurel in the bouquet. On the palate dark fruits, minerals like graphite, chocolate, licorice, earth and beautiful oak. Good acidity and round tannin. Lacking a bit in concentration to be great. The wine is mature and in a really nice drinking stage now. No real hurry though.
