I invited a few good friends over to catch up and drink some good wines with Indian food. Not a huge tasting, but some real beauties thrown into the mix.
Really interesting nose of musk, library books, clove and nettles on top of some red apples. Bright but vinous with a clean but crunchy feel. Tart red fruits mix with elements of toasted nuts and a fresh sense of salinity. An interesting Pinot Meunier side journey from the Champagnes I’m used to. That said, I found a lot of quality in this wine.
Seemed heavy and rich next to the 08 Vergnon Expression, but I still really liked this wine. A honeyed, hazelnut-driven approach with lots of apple and cinnamon, but still plenty of freshness, minerality and depth. Seems quite young, but it has a whole lot of vibrancy.
Such a vibrant and intense wine - I'd love to taste this in ten years. That said, it offers so much immediate pleasure. Nervy, salty, pithy, tart, this wine displays a crazy amount of minerals. But plenty of toasted nuts and biscuit elements as well. This wine was a big hit, and I'm going to have to buy more for the cellar.
Light gold color. So must dusty, chalky, crusty minerality on the nose, on top of sliced yellow apple and white peaches. Fresh on the palate with bright acidity and a clean, vibrant feel. Lemon, lime, peach, the fruit is sweet but fresh with honeysuckle, crushed rocks and chalk elements. Long and pretty and, oh, so clean. Paired wonderfully with chicken tikka and some other Indian dishes.
Well here's something you don't see every day: a sparkling orange Trebbiano from Emilia-Romagna. Thing is: it's a whole lot of fun. An unfiltered white beer, orange juice color in the glass. Smells funky, sweaty and pithy. Bright and clean but full of flavor, I get candied orange, spiced tea and funky-musky notes on this wine. Unique stuff - not something I'd necessarily seek out to pop with friends, but if you're looking for something nerdy and fun, this is worth seeking out.
I love the ways these age but it's so thrilling to taste them young, and this 2013 is gorgeous. Such precision and balance, the wine is infused with peaches, lemon curd, honey, sea breeze and floral perfume. Graceful yet youthful. Another phenomenal wine from John Paul.
Love this wine's freshness and vibrancy. Dusty tannins, bright acidity, crunchy currants and plums, the fruit is pure and ethereal, laced with flavors of earth, pepper, bay leaf, roasted lamb, hints of sea brine. Long, graceful.
2011 Barone Pizzini Franciacorta Rosé Millesimato 87 Points

Bright and tart red fruits, I’m loving the chalky elements. Sabered and served with some Caesar salad – so that was fun and popular all around.
