Introduction

This time we had a dinner with partners and we all brought a few wines. The wines we brought were tasted blind by the others.

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2007 Casal Garcia Vinho Verde Branco 78 Points

    Portugal, Minho, Vinho Verde

Very light. Not much to smell or taste. The is just a little pleasant citrus acidity. No complexity at all, but certainly refreshing on a hot Portuguese day and definitely nothing wrong with it. For 3.5$ per bottle……. good qpr!

  • 2005 Jean-Marie Bouzereau Meursault 85 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Full bodied, fat, butter, soft yellow tropical fruits. Very mild and also somewhat mature. Not a wine of great finesse, but certainly ok.

  • 2007 Scali Blanc 86 Points

A nice surprise after the bottle I drank a few months ago. Fresh yellow and white tropical fruits, pleasant acidity and quite expressive. A little pleasant sweetness.

All very primary, but very easy going. Modern made. Cherries and some other black fruits. Ok wine.

  • 2003 Tokara Red 89 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

Very smooth Bdx blend with red and black fruits and some pleasant sweetness. Well dosed oak. The tannin is soft and easy. Very well balanced wine with some complexity. Completely ready now, but no hurry.

  • 2008 Kanonkop Kadette 85 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

A lot of cherries in the bouquet. Soft bitterness. Cherries again on the palate together with other black forest fruits. Too young. At this moment not unpleasant, but one-dimensional. Will improve, but will never be great.

  • 2005 Bodega Catena Zapata Cabernet Sauvignon Catena Alta 87 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza

Full bodied. Soft tannin. Good oak. Ripe red as well as black fruits. Firm amount of sweetness. Nice at this moment, but it can last a few more years as well.

  • 2003 Vergelegen Vergelegen 90 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

Cassis, laurel, even some lead pencil. Soft tannin. Good fruit. This is a very nice, fairly complex wine. Ready now, but will keep this level another year or 2 - 4.
