Apple and pear with lots of concentration. Very long and powerful. Consistent with every other time tasted the past year+. wonderful now, this should continue to get more exciting and interesting the next decade+.
Lots of bottle variation over the years. Tonight's bottle was ok, but certainly not in the top 50%. Moderately oxidized with caramelized apple throughout. Best when first poured, then much less interesting after 20 minutes in glass. Others liked this more. In 88/95 flight, paired expecting both to be classically structured, but this flight didn't quite pan out. (Note: this was the 2nd underperforming bottle I have had from this same source, and think they may all have had storage issues before being purchased.)
Tasted in 82/85/90 flight. Fill was slightly worrisome, but color and effervescence perfect. Apple and quince, then some lemon confit on finish. Kept unfolding and evolving. The most pleasurable wine tonight.
Tasted in 82/85/90 flight. Ripe with lots of extract. Still very young. More minerality and textures seemed to emerge with more air. Improved significantly over the hour+ in glass.
In 96/02 flight. Wonderful orchard fruit, some lemon peel, lots of energy. Longer and more precise vs 1996, also seeming slightly more ripe, but not with the same level of concentration and textural complexity.
Served alongside 97. A very odd wine in several ways. First, this was very reductive to start, which I find very rare with Champagne. Sulfur dissipated after 20-30 minutes, then it seemed much ripe than I recall from before. Dried mango and other tropical hints (atypical for Salon and this vintage), but then with good structure bringing back balance from the middle forward.

Apple and lemon with very good balance. Moderate weight and length, good finesse and textures. Probably better in another year or two.
