Egly-Ouriet Tasting

The idea started as an Egly-Ouriet Millesime Magnum Vertical Tasting, we pimped it up a little bit. The place was chosen by Champagnegreenhat. A phantastic restaurant with great food.

Two different disgorgements

  It was the apero wine of this Egly tastong, very much bread crust, and red berries as raspberry, chalky. I preferred the three old disgorgement over the younger one. It showed more precision and balance

A great VV BdN 4 years after disgorgement

  From MG, disgorged July 12, 72 months on the lees, the main vintage was 2005, very smooth, even of the honey notes from some botrytis still a fresh champagne with a clean long finish, 92-93

  A mighty champagne which I like most of Francis Egly. Some oxidative "Whisky" notes but the freshness in the foreground. Some brioche, toast notes, spicieness, oak perfectly integrated, nuts in the aftertaste. I prefer this wine around 5 years after degorgement, 94-95

A still vibrant 03 was the winner for me in this flight., 05 a little bit disappointing. Not my favorite vintage

  Suprised from this hot vintage, the nose is a little bit waxy, the palate shows some honey but still a vibrant energy and acidity, remenids me to a good burgundy, long finish with a great concentration. the winner of 03-06

02 still young, 04 not the concentration of 02, a good 99 at its peak and a brialliant 95 reached his peal already. Perfectly drinkable

  I had a lot of 99's (VVF, Salon, Winston Churchill) in the last days. It shows the vinatge is better than his reputation. These wines are now at their peak. Phantastic nose, some roasted hazelnuts in the mid-palate with clean finish

  From magnum, thenose shows some little oxidation signs, no sherry, but the palate is clean and fresh. some almonds and orange marmelade, baken quince, still bubbling and vibrant acidity, 96-97, it shows the beauty of the vinatge, just over the top but very drinkable, don't wait too much

  The nose reminds to Burgundy, the palate is harsher and more rustic than his famous neighbour, missing elegance and deepness, still red berries with a good acidity structure but missing the finesse of a red Burgundy

All four Magnums were great. My winner was 1995 at its peak. 2002 with lot of potential. Again a very good 99, now reaching his top. Always one of my favorites the GC VV BdN Les Crayeres.
