Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2014 Big Table Farm Edelzwicker 92 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Prior notes: "Medium, slightly cloudy yellow/gold. Crisp and dry wine. Fruity (not sweet) and aromatic. Notes on palate were apples, lemon, orange blossom and white flowers."

One of the favorites for this group of friends, last bottle of the 2014... interesting, fun and well made wine from Big Table

  • 2012 Pott Wine Viognier 20m3 92 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder

Thought I would revisit this one, its been about 18 months and this is an "ABC" crowd when it comes to whites

Prior notes: "Classic Viognier, more like the French versions of this varietal that I have tasted than the Americans. Intoxicating, fragrant nose - white flowers, tropical fruits, apricots. Nice mouth feel, fuller bodied, not as sweet as the nose would suggest. Pears, peaches, violets, white flowers, a liqueur like quality on the finish. Crisp acidity."

This was crisp and dry, very intense, perfumed and floral. Still drinking beautifully. (Even Valerie liked this one)...

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 89 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Thought to add another "forgotten bottle" to this tasting. This one buried in one of the bins, nice vintage from a reliable producer...

Core color a deep garnet. Nice nose of red fruits, earth and coffee. Palate was red currant, plums, savory notes. Medium weight and finish. Sweetened tannins, resolved.

Nice enough wine in a good spot but I didnt find it showed much depth. Finish lacked any real complexity. Maybe past its prime, doesn have the depth of the Caymus Special Selection wines... drink now

  • 2011 Rhys Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

The impromptu tasting lasted a few bottles longer, opned this guy in a switch to lighter reds with this crew.

Prior notes: "Medium ruby color. Earthy, mineral nose, floral notes. Gentle , Burgundian mouthfeel. Cranberry, tart red fruit, licorice and a hint of clove. Strong and earthy with elegant, restrained character."

Further along (from memory) than last bottles. Wine opens nicely after about 20 minutes, showing more secondary flavors. Bright red fruits, good energy. Will have to remember to give this a decant for future bottles...:)
