One of the wines of the night. Great fruit. Raspberry rather than blackberry notes. Soft and voluptuous. Hard to put this down. Drinking at peak now. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Started with a lot of funk on the nose but that blew off pretty quickly (others felt it never fully went away). Good dark fruit but lacked the complexity of the 1989 and 1990. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
A very beautiful nose. Thinner body. Elegant and fresh strawberry fruit. Enjoyable but not special. The 1970s line up proved that this was the lost decade in Bordeaux. Montrose vertical 1895-2000.
Great nose. More saturation and tannins than the 1979. The 1970s line up proved that this was the lost decade in Bordeaux. Montrose vertical 1895-2000.
Initially not as expressive. Beautiful flavors and acidity, though. Pure elegance. The 60s were clearly superior to the 70s. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Not as expressive on the nose as some of the others. Flatter than the 1962 but darker fruit and more chocolate. The 60s were clearly superior to the 70s. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Really distinctive and intense nose. Some volatile compounds made this a very funky wine. Super concentrated raspberry flavors like an Astralis on steroids. Graphite and big saddle leather flavors. Weird but delicious. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
WOTN for me. Gorgeous elegant nose. Still remarkably youthful and vibrant at age 70. Dark fruit with nbelievable complexity. This was a revelation. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
I was really looking forward to trying my first Bordeaux of the legendary 1945 vintage. Unfortunately the bottle was slightly off. The wine was a bit madeirized although still drinkable. Nice smokey notes. You could still discern the elegance and potential greatness underneath. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Gorgeous nose. From half bottle. Lighter color compared to all the other vintages which had remained remarkably dark despite their advanced age. This was beautifully elegant with great acidity and awesome complexity. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Another wine tied for WOTN. Once again remarkable how the color and fruit have remained so youthful and vibrant. This was less expressive on the nose than the 1947 but the flavors were huge. This was all dark fruit within a massive tannin structure. It took a while for the tannins to dissolve in the glass at which point the wine truly became sublime. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
A very nice nose. Vibrant acidity left with a solid core of red fruit. A bit shorter on the finish. Wine opened up more as time progressed. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Orange color (compared to the others which had all retained their color despite their advanced age). Cinnamon on the nose. Intense and long acidic finish. Over the hill but interesting. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
Really intense black fig and olive. Brooding chocolate and prunes. Soft and velvety. A massive wine. Special guest appearance at Montrose vertical 1895-2000

Still closed. Slightly metallic angular taste. Fine tannins and a floral character. Needs another 5-10 years. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
