Really distinctive and intense nose. Some volatile compounds made this a very funky wine. Super concentrated raspberry flavors like an Astralis on steroids. Graphite and big saddle leather flavors. Weird but delicious. Montrose vertical 1895-2000

I was really looking forward to trying my first Bordeaux of the legendary 1945 vintage. Unfortunately the bottle was slightly off. The wine was a bit madeirized although still drinkable. Nice smokey notes. You could still discern the elegance and potential greatness underneath. Montrose vertical 1895-2000

Gorgeous nose. From half bottle. Lighter color compared to all the other vintages which had remained remarkably dark despite their advanced age. This was beautifully elegant with great acidity and awesome complexity. Montrose vertical 1895-2000

Another wine tied for WOTN. Once again remarkable how the color and fruit have remained so youthful and vibrant. This was less expressive on the nose than the 1947 but the flavors were huge. This was all dark fruit within a massive tannin structure. It took a while for the tannins to dissolve in the glass at which point the wine truly became sublime. Montrose vertical 1895-2000

A very nice nose. Vibrant acidity left with a solid core of red fruit. A bit shorter on the finish. Wine opened up more as time progressed. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
