The 1945 Montrose is so much fun to drink, giving a classic mature Montrose experience. This is incredibly structured and masculine but very detailed with a broad expression of fruit across the red, blue, and black spectrum accompanied by mint and leather. There’s a certain bloodiness to the palate that balances the fruit well with a long, gravelly finish. Super energetic, superb.

An epic vertical of Chateau Montrose (Restaurant Daniel): I was really looking forward to trying my first Bordeaux of the legendary 1945 vintage. Unfortunately the bottle was slightly off. The wine was a bit madeirized although still drinkable. Nice smokey notes. You could still discern the elegance and potential greatness underneath. Montrose vertical 1895-2000

The 1945 Montrose is a magical wine, though quite formidable too, as the combination of so masculine a vintage and so masculine a terroir is quite a marriage! Notes of cassis, red cherry, subtle truffle and graphite are followed by a reserved, structured, pure and intense wine which seems decades away from maturity. Its unerring focus and uncompromising character, however, are impossible not to admire.

31 Vintages of Château Montrose: 1928-2010; 5/2/2015-5/3/2015: High shoulder fill. Mostly brown, watery brim. Some VA, drying tannins, dried fruit at the beginning but with air some red berries as well. Better smell than taste. Most likely not an optimal bottle.

Lightly maderized. Good wine underneath though
