The second tasting from this years working with wine gave us the opportunity to look at Burgundy with a specific focus on the wines of Domaine Dujac.
Balance was the key take out for this bracket. The Faively was a bit of a disappointment though.
The bracket was designed to demonstrate quality. It worked. A hypothesis was also posed - does irrigation increase stalk impact?
What a pleasant bracket. Pity about the 2006. No move was made to replace it. The 2002 was my favourite.
Hmm. I’m usually a massive fan of Fromm wines but this one wasn't the best I've tasted. The McCrone Pinot from Ata Rangi was probably the pick of the bunch.
I did enjoy the cottage block…the tannin structure was particularly appealing
Woof. What a tasting. I was impressed by the lack of obvious stalks in the majority of the Dujac's despite the relatively high proportion of whole bunch here.
2016 Geantet-Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Earthy, savoury, concentrated, slight liquorice, dark brooding fruit; perhaps a little over extracted (?) slight stalks. Rich, dense, weighty, structured, dark hued fruits, drying but silky tannic burr travel hand in hand with the fruit. Long, very good.

2016 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
medium minus intensity aromas of a little red cherry, sweet spice. Juicy, the flavours are a little muted on the palate, lightly textured on the mid palate, a little herbaceous. Smoothly engaging, balanced but a little <shrug> for me.

2016 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Cherry, berry, quire fruit forward, coffee, oak, toast, cream, smells warm and welcoming. More juicy than I expected on the palate, the fruit is fresh and beguiling, silky tannic burr, fruit travels long. Balanced, elegant.

2016 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Medium minus intensity aromas. Almost a little resinous over wild black fruits, coffee. And so it roves on the palate, a little sour, savoury black fruit, tight and foursquare tannins. Finishes a little spiced. Not for me.

2016 Domaine Jean-Marc / Thomas Bouley Volnay Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Crunchy red berry fruit, a little sweet spice. Juicy, savoury, crunchy red berry, tannic burr dries things out. Simple. Time.
