Introduction

Brad thought it would be a good time to stretch his wings and do a little cooking. The theme was geared to white wines with a heavily vegetarian menu laced with seafood. Brad suggested the pairing options and we did our best to comply - some of us better than others :). The menu turned out to be really fun wth the highlight being a Smoked Salmon & Leek Tart with Asparagus & Mousseline Sauce (among many very fun dishes). All of the wines paired nicely and showed quite well. Thanks to Brad for his industrious efforts and to Chris and Jules for the sticky smorgasboard we finsihed with. We will all send a bill for our diabetes treatment at Mayo.

  • 2016 Massican Annia 90 Points

Very pale gold color. Drank a small glass over 20 minutes. This was really floral on the nose, citrus with crisp pear and musk melon. Lighter medium body, this was a fun wine. 90+pts.

  • 2013 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Medium dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. Had this at the Domaine about a year ago. This follow up was fairly consistent with my previous note. There's some earth, but no funk, plenty of aromatice garrigue, cherry, violets and scorched earth on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, well spiced and the garrigue stands out for its purity, cherry, briary, mineral, spiced plum, good length. This drinking well and may get even better over the next 5+ years.

  • 2009 Bedrock Wine Co. Sémillon Lachryma Montis, Botrytized Old Vine Monte Rosso Vineyard 88 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

Medium gold color. Small taste from 375ml. Orange, mango, very tropical, sappyy and very sweet. This has a very flashy nose, but there just isn't the acidity to adequately balance the level of sweetness on the palate for me. A little goes a long way. Those who don't need the acidity will find this better.

  • 2000 Alois Kracher Traminer TBA #1 Nouvelle Vague 93 Points

    Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee

Light amber color. Drank a small pour from 500ml. There's a lot going on here. The fruit is a complex malange of ripe apple, baked apricot, orange marmalade, golden raisin and a even a red cherry note at times. This has got the acidity to totally handle the sweetness and there's some fantastic spice notes, in particular an orange cinnamon stick note. This has a lot of untuous goodness as well. This was in good shape and still has some years left.

  • 2007 Donnafugata Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé 89 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Passito di Pantelleria

Burnt amber color. Small taste from 375ml. Wow, really ripe apricot, rather one dimensional, sweet, a little blood orange and caramelized sugar, on the downslope. 88+ to 89pts.

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Pale green color. Small taste from 375ml. Tart, laser acidity, classic Chenin, peach, ripe and tropical, mineral, apricots. This also has a lot going on in its youth. Really good now with a great future. 92(+)pts.

  • 2001 Château Suduiraut 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Medium gold color. Small pour from 375ml. This was the class of a very fine flight of mixed dessert wines. Spice, pineapple, peach, tangerine, white flowers, great spice, lightly honeyed, medium plus body, seamless and long. Love this wine.
