Flowers and fresh acidity in the bouquet. In the mouth green apples and pleasant acidity. Wines from Holland are improving! Later I heard they use used oak barrels. Don't remember exactly, but I think it was 1 - 3 years old barrels. The oak was in the background and the wine kept its crispy freshness. So that was a good decision. Nice wine.
Aromatic bouquet. A bit like Alsace Pinot Gris. In the taste good acidity like in green apples as well as some tropical fruit flavours. A friendly wine without great complexity, but with a fruity taste many will like.
I was too busy talking to make notes, but because this is a special wine I tasted, I want to enter it here for my own reference. In the bouquet there was clear concentrated cat pee. Some might want to call that spiciness. The wine is dry with ok acidity, and that is where my notes end. This is not my type of wine.
A bit fat with just a nice touch of oak. Pleasant good citrus acidity and a lot of freshness. Minerals. Talked to the wine maker; this is an intelligent man who makes his choices. No toasted oak here, but just that little oak to give the wine more complexity while it keeps its freshness. Good decision imo. Nice wine!
A little less fresh than the Pouilly Fuissé which I use as a reference. This wine offers a bit more complexity and bitterness in the aftertaste. Almonds? I do not know which I prefer. Same score.
Not so many notes, but this wine is fresh and has pleasant oak. Is the most complex of the 4 whites I tasted from this wine grower. Really a good glass of wine! The score might be too low.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Not so many notes. The bouquet reminds me of a port wine; somewhere in the middle between a tawny and a ruby/vintage. The taste is very ripe with mainly cherries.
Very full bodied and complex wine. A lot of bitterness and new oak in the finish. Very long aftertaste. This wine is much too young. But a promise for the future. Hope to try it again in let's say 7 years from now. The score can only be higher.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Complex bouquet with some barnyard and forest fruits. Same for the taste. The wine is very accessible. Although there is enough backbone, I am not sure if this wine is for the real long term. It is a beauty now!
Full bodied and very concentrated. There are plenty of dark fruits. They are overripe and give a somewhat sun boiled impression. A lot of bitterness in the aftertaste. No "official" score for the moment. (89+?)
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Certainly a mouth full of wine with a lot of sweetness and hidden spiciness at the moment. Very concentrated. In this bottle there was a lot of glue (acetone). No score.
Black ripe fruits and tobacco in the bouquet. Well dosed oak. Black fruits in the taste as well. Some chocolate. All nicely integrated. An excellent harmonious wine.
Full bodied wine. A lot of cherries and a lot of oak. Good tannin. Everything is nicely integrated. This wine presents itself much better than earlier this year.
A lot of fruit. Ripe dark cherries and cassis. Soft but (a lot of) sticky tannin. A firm dose of sweetness as well as bitterness. I did not score the wine, but it is probably high in the 80's.
A harmonious wine with good juicy dark cherry and cassis fruit, a good amount of acidity and pleasant bitterness. Full bodied. Now already nice, but will improve the next few years.
Concentrated wine. A bit smoky and spicy. Black cherries and cassis. Good balance between acidity and sweetness. Still very young. There is enough good soft tannin.
This might be a problem for Cellar Tracker. Jean Stodden apparently decided to put Pinot Noir on his 2006 labels instead of Spätburgunder. But it is in fact the same wine. Marketing reasons probably. My TN: Expressive and friendly bouquet with strawberries. In the mouth strawberries as well. Also other forest fruits. Soft tannin. Really a pleasant wine.
This might be a problem for Cellar Tracker. Jean Stodden apparently decided to put Pinot Noir on his 2006 labels instead of Spätburgunder. But it is in fact the same wine. Marketing reasons probably. My TN: More refined than the “JS” from the same producer. Much more sticky tannin as well. For the rest the wine has soft forest fruits, mainly strawberries like the “JS”. This wine offers more bite and is for longer keeping.
Full bodied, almost fat. A lot of minerals. Good citrus acidity and also some tropical fruits which give a hint of sweetness to the wine. Good concentration. Serious wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Full bodied and firm. Loaded with dark forest fruits. The tannin is dominating the wine too much at the moment. This wine needs at least 3 - 4 years in the bottle before it opens up. There is potential, but it is not showing any friendliness at the moment.
