The Krengels - Bannockburn IL
Tasted Saturday, July 11, 2020 by Burgundy Al with 182 views
My first larger event post quarantine, with the Krengels graciously hosting 40-50 people poolside with live music. A great opportunity to BYO. These were a few of the wines I had an opportunity to taste.
2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Vintage
France, Champagne
Note from memory from last night. From magnum. Plenty of apple with good weight and textures. Good brightness, good now.

2007 Sine Qua Non Body & Soul 87 Points
USA, California
Note from memory from last night. I haven't this wine since just after release. Very rich and still nicely fresh, but still very fleshy and tropical, to a greater degree than I would prefer.

2010 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard 93 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Note from memory from last night. Very impressive richness and depth with some apple and plenty of lemon and lemon curd in a complex combination with anise and floral elements, finishing with very bright energy. If blind, I'd likely have thought white Burgundy. Very good now.

2015 Ramey Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Note from memory from last night. Lots here, very big , fleshy and flashy. Some warmth on finish was more pronounced than I prefer.

2017 Domaine Yves Cuilleron Condrieu La Petite Cote 89 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Condrieu
Note from memory from last night. Classically Condrieu with buttery richness and intense floral character. Good weight and balance for now, but I'd expect this is better now than it will be in another year or two given some warming hints at the end. Consistent with how this tasted in the Rhone a year ago.

2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne Flawed
France, Champagne
An odd bottle, this was slightly musty or dirty.

2012 Pierre Damoy Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Note from memory from last night. Dark fruit that seems forward to start, but then subdued from middle forward with assertive acidity. Needs lots of time.

2012 Lucien Le Moine Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Note from memory from last night. Double blind.Given brief decant shortly before serving. Slightly reductive start. Bright red fruit throughout with savory spice and charming balance, I thought this was a 2010 Grand Cru. So much nuance coming through. Served double blind, but obviously Burgundy, I figured out the producer quickly based on profile (plus knowing which producers are Sam's favorites).

2013 Benoit Ente Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières En la Richarde 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
From magnum. Slightly reduced/ backward start when popped-and-poured, this opened up gracefully over the course of 4 hours. Lemon and apple to start with floral background notes. Fresh fruit upfront with intriguing honeyed elements adding another dimension on finish. Very good now, with a long life ahead.
