France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Double blind. 08 C Dugat LSJ/99 C Dugat LSJ/99 B Dugat-Py LSJ, 98 C Dugat LSJ Flight. More ripe and non-delineated aromas. Palate is also showing more simple, reserved and less evolved than the other wines. I mistakenly thought this was older and fading vs. younger and potentially wound up relative to the other three. Not hugely optimistic for upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Single blind. 08 C Dugat LSJ/99 C Dugat LSJ/99 B Dugat-Py LSJ, 98 C Dugat LSJ Flight. So much spice and incense intensity layered into jammy fruit aromas. Wow, great purity and concentration of fruit with an elegant, bright and fresh frame. This wine has it all and was going strong 3 hours after the tasting started. Should hold for a decade+
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Single blind. 08 C Dugat LSJ/99 C Dugat LSJ/99 B Dugat-Py LSJ, 98 C Dugat LSJ Flight. Meaty, smoky, spice aromas with darker black cherry vs. the Claude Dugat LSJs. Wow, dense and broad on the palate with exuberant meat and spice complexity. Concentrated, rich finish. Delicious. WOTF and slightly preferred to the 99 Claude Dugat LSJ.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Single blind. 08 C Dugat LSJ/99 C Dugat LSJ/99 B Dugat-Py LSJ, 98 C Dugat LSJ Flight. Quite similar to the 99 C Dugat LSJ, but with a notch or two less intensity, purity and freshness. Best now, where as the 99s have upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90/99/02/08 Jadot CSJ. Wow, great nose of mature earthen ripe black cherry with plenty of meat and spice accents. Still quite fresh and round with plenty of balancing structure intact. Terrific layering and complexity of meat, spice and earth. WOTF and WOTN.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90/99/02/08 Jadot CSJ vertical. Shows very young with a riper and higher toned red cherry aroma. The palate is similarly youthful with rich, bright fruit and serious brooding structure that makes the wine compact and non-delineated. Upside from here. A bottle ~8 months ago was more ready and open, so likely getting close depending on any given bottle's storage conditions.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90/99/02/08 Jadot CSJ. Ripe and sweet candied cherry fruit aromas. The palate is round, fun and spice-filled. Youthfully rich and very bright. Still not quite at peak with upside from here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90/99/02/08 Jadot CSJ. Very young in the context of the flight with primary red cherry and spice with structure that is still awkward and makes for a clunky palate. Better ~3 hours after the tasting started with structure starting to integrate. Better in 5-10+ years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
More ready than it's 08 Jadot CSJ counterpart and a more pleasurable wine right now as it shows both richness and depth of flavor. Nice meat and earth complexity. Should hold for 5-10 years, but don't see this getting much better.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
More modern than the 02 Jadot CSJ and 02 Fourrier CSJ with a candied sweetness to the aromas. The palate is quite stuffed with fruit and structure making it dense and chewy, and more 'beefy' than you might expect for a 2002. Continued to improve with time in glass. Upside from here, though it seems close to a peak window.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
The group thought it might be heat damaged, I'm not so sure, it offered some pleasure but seemed more muted than you'd expect. Meaty, earthy black cherry aromas. The palate has plenty of round fruit and lots of sous bois action. Good structure remaining.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
00/06 pair. Gorgeous, complex aromas of rich, meaty black cherry with mushroom and earth. The palate is complete, mature and complex though showing slightly tired on the finish, and more so with time in glass. One to drink now for maximum enjoyment.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
00/06 pair. An awkward 2006 that shows the ripeness of the vintage with interesting spice-filled ripe cherry but an angular and sharp palate presence that is un-integrated. Perhaps it just needs time, but the ripeness of fruit gives me some pause that it will hold up.
