The Moll House - Chicago IL

First of three blind tasting that will focus on Meursault, with the goal being to see if the great Village level lieux-dits can match the great 1er Cru wines.
Single blind in flight. Bright and ripe at the same time, with everything in perfect harmony. Pure and transparent lemon, lemon curd throughout with some ripe apple. Very good length. I correctly identified this as 2015 Tessons, but got everything else in the flight wrong. My favorite of the flight.

Single blind in flight. Rich and precise with lots of concentration. Good weight, good+ length, I thought this was younger because it still seemed a bit angular on finish, and thought there further upside, but don't often find that true with Boillot at this age. Best now through 2026.

Single blind in flight. Bright and linear but perfectly harmonized already. Fun with sneaky power on its expanding finish. Almost as goodas the excellent 2015, but others preferred this vintage.

Single blind in flight. Slightly reductive start, but lots of yellow and green apple with toasted hazelnut, so classically Meursault. Fleshy and rich but a touch oaky. Good density and weight but less nuanced that others on the flight, which is surprising for the vintage. My least favorite of the flight, but my previous bottle from the same case was better when opened one year ago.

Clearly past its peak, but this wine should never have been expected to last this long.

Single blind in flight. Dark color, totally past its peak. But Village wine in a very ripe vintage should not be expected to still be good at 15 years.

Single blind in flight. Apple with almond butter. Bright and powerful, this is very balanced and fun, showing what seemed like 1er Cru density.

Single blind in flight. Slight reduction quickly dissipated. Good richness, fun and enjoyable with good enough balance. Good now. I don't ever recall having this wine before.

Very rich and concentrated, this also seemed like 1er Cru. complex layers with ripe apple, baked apple and toasted walnut. Very good now with upside.

Single blind in flight. Very dark color gave cause for concern. and while the aromas and flavors were fresher than color implied, this was nowhere near the great level of previous bottles from this same case. This was "90 points" when poured, but fell off precipitously after 20 minutes in glass.

Single blind in flight. Bright and very elegant for the 2015 vintage. Plenty of apple and walnut, with clear supporting structure in the near background. The only bad thing I could say about this is that it is not quite as good as 2015 Tesson from earlier in the evening.

Single blind in flight. Wow, best this wine has ever showed. Lemon, green apple, red apple, with a bright and minerally finish. Good weight for Village level wine, but a shockingly long finish that isn't powerful but is bright and ever-so-elegant.

Single blind in flight, this was quite easy to identify. There was noticeable reduction to start, that was prototypically Roulot matchstick. That reduction never fully went away, but softened enough with time in glass So rich, dense and powerful, with exceptional structure for the 2012 vintage. My Wine of the Night.

Tasted double blind, i thought it from Volnay 2002. Ripe and well spiced with good density, sneaky length. Red cherry from beginning to end. This wine thrilled me just at release, then less balance when last tasted in 2006. Glad to see how beautifully it harmonized.

Last of a case bought on release. Most have been great. This was corked.

Alongside the tired 2000, this was more tired and less drinkable.

Alongside the very tired 1999, this was drinkable but disappointingly advanced. Much better when last tasted a couple of times in 2016 and 2017.

Apple with floral hints and overall good brightness and energy. Slightly lacking the fruit concentration of a better bottle from last year, but overall very good.

Fig and bitter almond with dried orange peel. Very dry. Good length. I got the last pour with sediment, so maybe not 100% representative, and "89 points" for me tonight. Bual was better.

Slightly sweet with lemon and orange flesh and peel, also showing figs, coffee, toffee, and walnuts. Good length and good balance with plenty of brightening acidity throughout.

Tasted double blind. Clearly not champagne, but made in a style trying to replicate low dosage grower Champagne. Very lean, too tart with lots of density and good textures.
