Introduction
Chef Matt Peters, formerly chef at Michelin 3-stars Per Se and French Laundry, and the first American winner of the Bocuse d'Or, catered a dinner for 23 friends in our house. My goal was to create the best food + wine event of our lives, at least in Austin. It was indeed the best wine lineup of my life. Nobody could taste everything, but I did my best and enjoyed a handful of the best wines of my life.

This was my white wine of the night on the greatest night of tasting I've ever enjoyed. First time enjoying l'Ermite Blanc, and it blew my mind. Like drinking liquified granite. Genuinely amazing. Fired up that I have a few bottles of 2015, but now I'm hooked and want more.

The amount of fruit remaining pleasantly surprised me. I don't think this will improve further, but this still tastes great after almost 70 years. From magnum.

Very young, I know, but never pass an opportunity to try Petrus. Tasted alongside a 2006 Masseto, both of which were well decanted. I preferred the Masseto.

This was one of the surprises of the night - namely, that our bottle seemed to still need a lot more time, assuming time will address the tannin and wood elements. I didn't like how those still overshadowed the fruit without evolution to desired secondary flavors.

Red wine of a night that included 1959 and 1986 Lafite, 2009 Petrus, 2006 Masseto, 1974 Heitz Martha's Vineyard, 1976 DRC La Tache, and another two dozen similar wines. This was one of the two best Bordeaux I've ever tried. Truly "perfect" for me. Can't imagine better.

Fruit was slightly jammy and stewed. I love La Las but seemingly prefer vintages without the heat spike of 2003. I don't think age will improve this vintage, as it would most other vintages.

This seemed to be a great bottle for the vintage. Fruit was still vibrant, and age imparted lovely length and elegance. Very thankful for opportunity to experience this.

So grateful to have a chance to try this legend. Bottle performed great. This is now a very elegant wine, though primary/secondary/tertiary flavors are less balanced than I've found in the best Bordeaux of similar age.

I grabbed the wrong bottle, as I wouldn't otherwise drink this so young. Today, it's enjoyable and perhaps performs at a 96-97 level. It's clearly on its way toward perfection many years from now, so rating accordingly.

First time trying Masseto, which was up against the best wine lineup of my life. In a taste-off, I strongly preferred this to the 2009 Petrus. Against all other reds, only the 1982 Latour bested it. Amazing wine and worth the money for special occasions, IMO.

Perfection that lasts for 90+ seconds. One of the two best Madeiras I've ever had. Purchased from RareWineCo, originally bottled in the 1960s, and recorked in 2016. A three-day decant was essential, as I'd only rate it 96-97 upon first taste. After three days, it opened spectacularly and stole the show at the end of the best drinking evening/lineup of my lifetime.
