We take turns. The host provides the dinner and all the wines. There is no theme and all wines are poured fully blind. The wines are poured one at a time.
Ripe apples and some yellow fruits in the bouquet. On the palate soft yellow fruits, soft acidity and just a touch of sweetness. Bitterness in the finish. Not really outspoken, but definitely a good wine.

Ripe apples , melon and honey in the bouquet. On the palate yellow tropical fruits, some minerals and oak. Nice and well balanced wine.

Yellow tropical fruits in the bouquet as well as the mouth. On the palate also a lot of fresh acidity which reminds of candy. Some oak and a lot of bitterness in the finish. In this stage special, but not so very beautiful. Maybe it needs more ageing? Not sure. 86 for tonight.

Beautiful bouquet with mild yellow fruits and a firm dose of oak. Also yellow fruits, firm tart citrus and oak on the palate. A concentrated wine. The fruit can handle the oak, but it is wise to wait some years so it can integrate a bit more. Nevertheless luxurious, complex and beautiful already.

Blood red. In the bouquet mocha, chocolate and dark fruits. On the palate firm acidity and bitterness, sweet spices, some earthy impressions, oak and herbs and spices. The tannin is a bit harsh. Much too young of course, but at this moment the wine is disappointing. The score for today was just 87. Hope it will improve.

Blood red. Mocha and chocolate in the reticent bouquet; everything else is hidden. On the palate compact and concentrated. A lot of cherries and a lot of bitterness. Also chocolate, coffee and a touch of sweetness. Nevertheless it is a classical wine that needs at least another 6 years in the bottle. Do not open before 2019 is my suggestion after tasting this much too young bottle. 90++

Beautiful bouquet with cassis, chocolate, oak and sweet spices. On the palate juicy cassis and chocolate as well, Good acidity and bitterness and firm but round tannin. The wine developed considerably over the evening and became even more beautiful. Reaching maturity around 2018 I guess.

Beautiful slightly developed bouquet with cassis and some beautiful oak. On the palate cassis, some chocolate and spiciness, elegant acidity, good bitterness and soft tannin with a pleasant bite. Really beautiful wine. Luxurious, but not overly complex. Early maturity now. Will offer great drinking from now until about 2020.

Beautiful bouquet with a touch of barnyard, cassis, luxurious oak, graphite, smoke, cedar and also some reductive flavors. On the palate quite developed. Chocolate and celery and also still juicy cassis and soft spices. Good, firm acidity and soft an round tannin. The wine is still beautiful, but coming close to the end of its life. Drink between now and 2015.

This is a special wine for several reasons. It is in fact the TOP wine from Chateau Fontenil, Fronsac, but nevertheless it is a Vin de Table de France. The reason for this is that Michel Rolland does not stick to the rules. I am told that, when there is too much rain, the vines are covered from it; and that is not allowed. For that reason the wine is downgraded to a Vin de Table (Tablewine) and then also a vintage on the label is not allowed. On the cork however the vintage is printed. And…….also the No de Lot on the back label reveals the vintage. So Lot 01 means it is the 2001 vintage, lot 02 = 2002 etc.. My TN: Deep dark red. Beautiful and rustic bouquet with ripe and sweet black forest fruits. On the palate concentrated with a lot of cassis and other dark forest fruits, sweet spices like a touch of menthol and chocolate. Soft tannin and a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. A beautiful modern style wine and no real hurry. This will still be great in 2015.

If you own a bottle of this (NV.....) wine, I suggest you read my TN for 2001, because in fact this wine has a vintage when you know how to read the back label. If your bottle has No de Lot 01. mentioned on the back label, it is a 2001 and you own a beautiful modern style wine which is ready now and will offer great drinking over the next few years.

Orange brown color. In the bouquet tea, coffee and mocha as well as some organic smells. On the palate it is in fact surprisingly. Some chocolate and spices, still good acidity and tannin with still some bite. Nevertheless the wine is well past its prime, so I don't score it.

Orange brown. In the bouquet coffee, tobacco and chocolate. On the palate chocolate and coffee as well, a firm amount of sweetness. Ok acidity and completely integrated and melted tannin. Fully mature now. Drink soon. Silly, but I simply forgot to score the wine.

Still purple red. The wine has a beautiful and complex bouquet with cassis, luxurious oak, cedar, dust and spiciness. On the palate loaded with cassis and ripe dark forest fruits, dark chocolate, beautiful oak, and a firm amount of good acidity, tannin and bitterness. A concentrated wine which is still too young, but already showing what it has in store. Probably reaching early maturity around 2017. 92+

Dark purple red and high viscosity. In the bouquet cassis, blood, meat, bacon and smoke. On the palate a lot of juicy dark fruits, a lot of good acidity and tannin as well. Also a pleasant touch of sweetness. A classical wine, already showing what it has in store, but probably wise to wait at least until the turn of the decade; so until 2020. Will probably still be great around 2030. 92+

Sweet bouquet with ripe black as well as red forest fruits. On the palate a lot of sweetness as well. Mainly ripe dark fruits, sweet spices, soft acidity and tannin. A concentrated and beautiful wine in which the sweetness dominates. Nevertheless with its good oak a lovely wine.

Just a short note. Both the bouquet as the palate show a lot of sweetness of ripe raspberries and good strawberries. There is beautiful acidity, bitterness hidden behind it, but in this stage the lush ripe fruits dominate. Good spiciness (garrigue) as well. How to score it? 93 for the moment seems generous, but correct. Would love to taste this again around 2020. 95+ by then?

See also my previous notes. This bottle is a confirmation; beautiful bouquet with luxurious oak and good cassis. On the palate also as previous notes. A touch of bell pepper is showing as well. Just wait at least until 2020, then it will all fall on the right place. For now 93 - 94. Probably 95+ a decade from now.

On the palate a lot of juicy cassis and other ripe black forest fruits. A lot of acidity and bitterness, but also some pleasant acidity. The tannin has still a firm bite. Overall a beautiful and classical wine that needs a few more years of ageing. Around 2015?

Tropical fruits. Good bitterness, firm acidity as well. Pleasant sweetness. Still very youthful, fresh and clean. Beautiful wine.

Hmmm… I have second thoughts about this wine, but time will probably be the solution. In both the bouquet as well as the taste glue is dominating. Of course there is plenty of polishing wax, botrytis, orange peel and apricots in this enormously concentrated wine. The sweetness is almost extreme and the acidity probably hidden. I have one bottle left and I will try to wait until 2020 (Or even better; 2025) before opening it. No score for today.
