Dinner and wine tasting at Treville office

We were 15 people gathered at our office and enjoyed great food from Restaurant Esmee, great wines and of course, great company.

We were lucky that all wines - also the older ones - showed perfect this evening. We had two bottles or a magnum of each wine.

  From magnum. Fine well-rounded BdB with good depth and mineral balance. Worked fine as aperatif.

  From magnum. Non-dosage and dry which would have been better with food than as an aperitif. Nice and rich but also at bit edgy.

  From magnum. Lovely BdB. Full-bodied and deep with citrus, white flower and brioche flavours but still both smooth and vibrant.

Mixed theme but great to compare two Chassagne Caillerets from two top producers from the same vintage. The food was too light for the white Hermitage but perfect with the others.

  From Magnum. Fine and harmonious with a nice chalky and mineral backbone but not that deep. It was in tough company this evening.

  Still young but very impressive. It has ample fruit with some citrus notes and it is in total balance in this warm year. Delicate mineral spine. Good stuff.

  Young but with fine balance in this warm year. It has some exotic fruits flavours and notes of citrus and mint. Very nice but will improve with more age.

  It was a little difficult to rate it this evening with light food and Chardonnays. It really needs food with some depth and flavours. It is in a light oxidative phase now but has super depth and nuances of honey, beeswax, apricot and peach. Can go a long way.

4 different expressions of top-drawer Northern Rhone that all performed great

  In line with my previous note. Expressive and yet delicate with red and black fruit, earthy and some meaty notes with a granite spine. Really, really good now. Classic Chave combining power with elegancy and delicacy!

  Still young but very enjoyable. Impeccable balance with clear rich fruit, meat, olives, pepper and a backbone with the right acidity and minerality. Great Cornas.

  Consistent with earlier note but with stiff competition on this night. Dark and dense fruit-forward wine with smokey, meaty, savoury and floral notes. Still on the young side.

  Great classic Hermitage. It is totally fresh with no sign of its age. Dark fruited, meaty, spicy and very long. In great balance and still with a long life ahead.
