2.5 hours to taste over 120 wines...no chance based on historic precedence even with a massive paucity of note taking...Soooooo the plan of attack was to remove anything from the Hunter that I can pop up to quickly for a whistlestop tour then try all the posh (i.e. expensive stuff) first before moving on to the rest of the wines...
Lots to like here. Australian Chardonnay is right up there with the best Chardonnay in the world. Easily. Shiraz is getting increasingly clever - alcohol is being beautifully managed and balance accomplished.
It was pleasing to see so many great wines here.
A little of that chicken herb thing, wild ferment funkiness, sweet spice, biscuit, lemon over stone fruit. Juicy, palate very much a reflection of the nose, a little textured burr tugs at the tongue. Time will help - needs to come together.

Very struck match, bacon crisps over citrus, stone fruit, flinty. Medium plus intensity acidity tends to tart, quite citric, coarse burr, tightly tannic, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm.

Grapefruit, butter, lemon, a little herbaceous notes, touch of sweaty armpit. Super fresh, juicy, tangy, smidges of grapefruit, lemon, butter though the fruit portions drops on the medium plus intensity length. Interesting. Nice.

Hmm, wild ferment gone wrong married to struck match reductiveness backed by sweet oak spice. Juicy, fleshy, a savoury underpin, stone fruit, better on the palate. Okay.

Clean, fresh, lightweight, stone fruit, boiled sweets, a little sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, juicy, fleshy, fresh, tangy, citrus notes join the stone fruit, beautifully balanced. Very good.

Struck match, sweet spcie, slight savoury note, palates shows savoury stone fruit, texture and glycerol fatness but all in all it's a bit flat which is a major concern as this was served far too cold.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Struck match, perfumed floral notes, ripe stone fruit, a little flinty underpin. Juicy, fleshy, stone fruit is fruit sweet, bacon fat, plenty of grip on the gums and the palate. Time? But it's out of whack at the mo'

From Magnum. Struck match/bacon fat. Lemon but the reductive notes dominate the nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, but, despite the acidity, this is quite flat, there is a little textured burr. Meh.

Struck match, peach, sweet spice, polished oak, a little butter. Juicy, fresh, tangy, plenty of textured, stone fruit, smidge of citrus. Good.

Medium minus intensity aromas of controlled whole bunch, red hued fruits, a little wild strawberry with a cranberry underpin. In the mouth it's fruit sweet, again the whole bunch notes are controlled, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth, drying though finely tooled textured tannins. Hmm.

Savoury, plummy earthy, baking spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, tightly textured drying chalky tannins, plummy, smidge of plum lozenge but this is all a bit cumbersome and clumsy. Nah

Whole bunch, blackberry, brambles, black pepper, savoury with slight sweet spice. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, fleshy, black fruits as per nose, talc textured tannins, balanced. very good

Ripe blackberry, plums tending to prune, sweet spice, vanilla, cream. Concentrated on the palate, too much of everything at the moment, all shouting but in relative harmony. Lives up to its name. years required.

Ahh Hunter shiraz, leather, earthy, rubbery reductive, plums backed by sweet spice and pepper. Juicy, fleshy, savoury, plummy fruit has an earthy underpin, tannins are chalky and drying but supportive. Hmm.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Ooh, slightly reductive, struck match over blackberry, earth, plums, almost leather, peppery, meaty. Tightly textured tannins, juicy, fleshy, black hued fruit, brambles, blackcurrant. Lots going on. Okay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Smells dilute; brambles, plums, blackberry, all wild a little green underpin with pepper notes, earth. Surprisingly concentrated on the palate, fruit pure, tannins are persistent, talc textured and supporting, rather nice.

Quite jubey, black hued fruit, a tiny menthol note. Quite perfumed as well, sweet spice, pretty nose. Thick, savoury and a little tarry on the palate, black fruits with plenty of drying, chalky tannins, sweet spice, alcohol warmth. Time but okay.

Reductive, funky but with a pretty perfumed top note. Fairly ugly on the palate...not very nice at all.

Ripe, concentrated, black hued fruit, a slight herbaceous underpin, slightly perfumed top notes, caramel, sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, concentrated black fruits with a slight herbaceous underpin, tannins are chewy and drying but in support, oak notes here as well as some alcohol warmth. Hmm.

Medium minus intensity aromas show an almost cork taint note, blackcurrant and berry, peppery and sweet spice, cedar, alcohol prickle and it's much of a muchness on the palate. Meh.

Reductive, black hued fruits, pepper, spice, a little anonymous on the nose. Concentrated and quite bitter, massive unwieldy tannins. Nah.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Ripe blackberry, sweet spice, slightly jubey notes, a little peppery underpin. Juicy, thick, concentrated but not overtly so, black fruits, chalky tannins. Big, balanced, rather nice though.

Savoury, wild blackcurrant, perfumed, a little clay, sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, blackcurrant, savoury, chalky slightly coarse tannins, wetly fleshy, controlled. good.

Cedar, eucalyptus, blackcurrant, very Margaret River nose, backed by sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, juicy, blackcurrant and eucalyptus, savoury with a little oaky underpin. Medium minus intensity chalky tannins, a little red currant underpin on the finish. Okay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Blackcurrant, eucalyptus, mint, a little cedar, sweet spice, creamy, slight animal notes as well. Thick, ripe, but not overtly so, blackcurrant backed by cream, chalky drying tannins, very slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth. Okay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Ripe blackcurrant, slight mint, earthy, sweet spice. Big, bold, juicy, fruit forward, slightly jubey underpin, talc textured tannins, long, again a little non-intrusive alcohol warmth. Kind of nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Medium minus intensity, farty, slightly reductive, blackcurrant, sweet spice, herbaceous underpin, cedar, something. a little gamey. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, tight chalky tannins both boss around the black hued fruit. Hmm.

Medium minus intensity aromas of slightly burnt blackcurrant, cedar, sweet spice, slight mint. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, fleshy, blackcurrant fruit, plenty of chalky tannins, slight non-instrusive alcohol warmth, long, nice, simple, pleasant.

Lime, finger line, steely minerality. Bone dry with medium plus intensity acidity, lime, tangy, a little texture. Pleasant.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lime, finger lime and a little lime pith...In the mouth slight petillance here to give a little crispness to the lime fruit, again this is bone dry with medium plus intensity acidity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Kerosene, lime, mineral. A theme is emerging - petillance, medium plus intensity acidity, bone dry - but here the fruit drops a little quickly. Meh.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Peach, lime, slight green apple. Very green apple on the palate, a little residual sugar throws balance to the acidity, simple. Okay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lime over lemon and lemon curd, a little custard note. Fruit sweet (slight residual?), similar profile to the nose. Nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Served far too cold. Medium minus intensity aromas initially but hand warmth helps show lime and a little peach. Savoury, bone dry, quite hard and mineral, fruit a bit lost here. Nah but I don't think the temperature will help.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Again served far too cold. A little candied lime, sweet spice, tiny touch of custard apple. Palate a reflection of the nose, juicy, bone dry, the coldness again detracts from the fruit on the palate - in fact it does the wine a disservice.

Apple, lime, a little sweet baking spice. Lime over green apple on the palate, bone dry, very slight texture, medium length, okay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very slight kerosene, smoky, lime and citrus. On the palate it has a little residual sugar which make the frint pop, medium plus intensity acidity offsets this, tangy, lime, a little kumquat and even a touch of green apple. Okay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Peachy, green apple, lime. Too much sweetness for the acidity, a little stone fruit but a touch dilute as well. Meh.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Walnuts, figs, concentrated with black treacle and dry fruits, sweet spice, cream, thick, dense, walnut, fig, raisins, alcohol heat, cherry, a little woodiness, it's a bit unyielding and unforgiving on the palate...lacks balance for me.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, toffee, toffee apple, raisins, cream, spice, a little ripe apple but too much sugar for the acid, again this is heavy and lacks a bit of balance for me.

The target was 64 wines and I managed 62 so, with people wrangling and crowd bumping, I was happy with that. The staff at Est. very kindly let me park myself on the end of the bar with my own tasting bucket which was super handy.
A tasting chum Chris (who I was at the Querciabella tasting with) really pushed me to go for this and, though it was quite expensive, I'm exceedingly happy I did.

2019 Voyager Estate Chardonnay MJW
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
A little stone fruit, sweet spice, touch of almost salinity, oak, muted malo butteriness...Super tangy on the palate, a little light textured, fruit present but feels a little out of whack at the moment. This was also served far too cold. Time and temperature may help.

2020 Yarra Yering Chardonnay Carrodus
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Initially ripe stone fruit; quite melon, with a citrus underpin. Oak lends sweet spice. More citrus on the palate, tight texture provides a certain amount of chewiness, this is quite linear with touches of grapefruit, clean and lean. Okay

2020 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir Carrodus
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Aromas of dark hued cherry and berry, quite concentrated, a little sweet spice underpin, caramel oak. Juicy, fleshy, fruit sweet with a savoury underpin, tangy, softly textured, finishes slightly bitter but this is good.

2020 Pooley Pinot Noir Cooinda Vale Oronsay
Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
Ashy whole bunch dominates everything. A little red hued fruit and controlled oak struggles beneath this. Wetly juicy on the palate, red fruit are dominated by drying slightly chalky textured tannins, long. The stalks are less intrusive in the mouth but this is quite out of whack at the moment. Quite a few years required.

2019 By Farr Pinot Noir RP Côte Vineyard
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
Polished oak and fruit; ripe cherry, plenty of sweet spice, slight caramel, a little savoury spice as well. Quite savoury and juicy in the mouth, flour textured tannins take precedence over the fruit but the cherry fruit is still present. Time will help but this is good.

2018 Yarra Yering Shiraz Carrodus
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Ripe blackberry tends to blackberry concentrate, plenty of sweet spice, a little perfumed floral top note here. Juicy, fruit sweet, polished oak, fleshy, tannins are contained and persistent, balanced, finishes long with a smidge of bitterness. Good.

2019 Torbreck The Factor
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Ripe jammy black fruits, sweet spice, very slight peppery underpin and some jubey prettiness as well. It's a bit soupy on the palate, obviously a bit over extracted, tannins are tight, chalky, persistent but the fruit carries. Alcohol warmth on the finish. Big though balanced. Okay for what it is.

2019 Henschke Shiraz Vineyard Selection Tappa Pass
Australia, South Australia, Barossa

2017 Hardys Shiraz Eileen Hardy
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Slightly reductive, ripe blackberry, sweet spice, an almost buttery underpin, perfumed, slight pepper and a smidge of almost apricot (?), savoury, tightly textured, it's a little reductive on the palate, closed, alcohol warmth intrudes on the finish. Nah.

2016 Yalumba Shiraz The Octavius
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
ripe, concentrated (but not Torbreck concentrated) blackberry, plum, smidge of prune, cream, sweet spice. Thick on the palate with medium plus intensity acidity, concentrated fruit a little diminished here, tannins are woody and drying. Obviously time should help but this is already 6 years and is still fairly monolithic.

Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Pokolbin
Ripe black fruit, plums, polished oak, sweet spice, a little blackberry, slightly jubey black fruits, earth, slight leather. Juicy, savoury, with sweet dark hued core, sweet spice then tannic sweep - talc textured but medium plus intensity, fruit persists. Nice.

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Reductive rubbery tending to blackberry concentrate, sweet spice, polished oak lends vanilla, caramel. Quite thick on the palate, black fruits, plenty of alcohol, talc textured but woody tannins, all travel long helped by alcohol. Time required and this is quite big but not for me.

2016 Levantine Hill Estate Syrah Melissa's Paddock

2013 Gralyn Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Slight red currant under blackcurrant, a little more eucalyptus and mint, cedar, sweet spice and it's a bit more red fruited than the 2018 on the palate as well, lacks a little generosity, tannins are tight and drying. Meh.
