Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2014 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin La Pucelle Blanc 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin

Glistening light lemon in colour. Almost petrol like reduction on the nose which softened with time in the glass. Medium bodied with palate showing lime cordial and white fruit notes. Bright acidity but not OTT with a supple texture and quite serious persistence. Impressive. From Zalto Montrachet.

  • 2017 Domaine Michel Lafarge Meursault 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Light lemon in colour and somewhat inexpressive on the nose. Medium bodied and quite broad on the palate without the depth and concentration of the other two wines served in the same flight. Still, it was not without charm, and whilst it was on the minerally side there were also succulent white fruits, and overall it seemed came quite harmonious. From Zalto Montrachet.

  • 2018 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

Light yellow. Nose not particularly expressive. Medium to medium full on the palate coming over as very pure and precise with white fruits and plenty of energy. Really well balanced and confident without needing to try too hard. Vineyard rather than winery. Right up my street. Lovely. From Zalto Montrachet.

  • 2006 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Garnet in colour and with a to die for nose that was quite linear but so good all the same showing essence of wild raspberry. Powdery tannins and on the red fruit with great purity and blossomed in the glass showing its class. Drinking well and will keep for some time. Naughty to say... but think I marginally preferred the 2019 drunk recently! From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 2006 Dujac Fils et Père Morey St. Denis 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Darker garnet in colour than the domaine bottle. Initially more expressive with forest floor and strawberry on the more tertiary nose. Started off very nicely but with time in the glass the mid-palate thinned whilst the domaine bottling had the staying power to develop and improve. Inside first half hour 92 points yet the wine fell back. If you have I would not age them further. From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 2011 Domaine David Clark Vosne-Romanée 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Darker garnet in colour. Exotic spices on the nose with blue and red fruit. Medium bodied with gentle tannins but quite lively acids with sharper red fruit and a bit vegetal, even beetroot. Lacking midpalate depth sadly. From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 2015 Hubert Lignier Morey St. Denis Tres Girard 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Water evaporating off hot stones and red fruit on the nose. Elegance and power combines well to deliver a compelling MSD with red fruits and a little spice on the palate with balanced acidity. Perhaps a hint of solaire from the 2015. From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 2009 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

This needed a shake as too much CO2 which resulted in a pop, job done! Red fruited on the nose and came over as rich yet it remained graceful, really good concentration and purity. In a good spot. From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 2016 Domaine Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Whole bunch freshness on the nose with red fruits and hint of forest floor. Medium bodied with v good definition and focus with no shortage of freshness and acidity is not overdone. Really lovely red fruits too. Really harmonious and balanced. Performed better than expected amongst esteemed company. From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 2010 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Attractive red fruited nose, graceful on the palate but seemed to be lacking the concentration and energy of the example I tried in December 2020. Quite linear. Good but not great. P.S. Looking back at my notes I had the 2010 VV so not surprising that the straight GC did not offer the same wow factor. From Zalto Burgundy.

  • 1997 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Le Haut-Lieu 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Orange rind on the nose, viscosity and some weight on the palate. There's marmalade, apricot and other spices. Does not have the scale, length and complexity of the truly stunning dessert wines I've had. Not without appeal but not quite rocking it for me - one for the true connoisseurs. From Zalto Chamapne glass.
