    Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas

    A little sherry like with bruised apple, saline notes, a little maderised quality, over stone fruits; peach; apricot and a slight herbaceous underpin. Medium plus intensity acidity, sharp, quite apple on the palate with a saline mineral underpin and a fair lick of alcohol. FLAW

  • 2020 Guimaro Ribeira Sacra Blanco

    Spain, Galicia, Ribeira Sacra

    From Coravin. Initially baked chicken (?!?), fresh herbs, rocky minerality, a little almost peppery spice and a smidge of green apple. Mineral and meaty on the palate, juicy, fleshy acidity, a touch of rocky texture, smidge of green apple her to , feels warmer than the stated 12.5% hmm

  • 2019 Guimaro Ribeira Sacra

    Spain, Galicia, Ribeira Sacra

    From Coravin. Cherry and a little cherry lozenge, touch of earthy underpin, a little liquorice and sweet spice. More savoury on the palate and a little dilute with a similar flavour profile featuring the cherry and earthy underpin. Negligible tannins. Simple. Nice...but drink up

  • 2018 Telmo Rodríguez Mencía Valdeorras Gaba do Xil

    From Coravin. Wild ferment, a little whole bunch, slightly ashy, ripe cherry and cherry lozenge, a little almost white peppery note. Juicy, slight ashy cherry, textured burr on the mid palate has a slightly mineral underpin, that cherry persists, touch of whole bunch. Okay. Drink up

    From Coravin. Floral, violet, candy floss, cherry cola and an almost dr pepper note, a little vanilla, dry wood and sweet spice. Sour cherry cola on the palate, that slightly dry wood note here as well and a little grippy texture. Meh.

  • 2020 Telmo Rodríguez Rueda Basa Blanco

    Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda

    From Coravin. Green hued fruits, slight candied note - like fruit drops; a little pear, a bit of sulphur here as well, smidge of sherbet. Juicy, fleshy, a little pear, slight alcohol warmth on the finish, simple, pleasant but alcohol warmth a touch too much.

  • 2019 Antidoto Ribera del Duero Roselito

    From Coravin. A little red fruit married to a fair sulphur prickle shows as strawberry and cherry, very slight white pepper and meaty underpin. A little slight sour red fruit but this is quite dilute and lacking freshness on the palate. Nah.

    From Coravin. Slightly meaty, dirty, with a touch of strawberry compote and a smidge of sulphur and clove. Juicy, slight savoury strawberry compote, a little textured burr offers a silky rasp. Medium plus length. Simple. Okay.

  • 2019 Bodega Frontio Arribes Follaco

    Spain, Castilla y León, Arribes

    From Coravin. Liquorice, earth, red and black hued fruits, a little raspberry, strawberry and blackberry, quite a mineral underpin with a touch of fennel and menthol. Wetly dilute, black tea tannins are dying and slightly coarse, red and black fruits, savoury liquorice. Balanced, a little fleshy, everything travels long. Kind of yum.

Flight 3 - Rioja Blanco & Aragon (3 Notes)

  • 2019 Familia Alegre Valgañón Rioja Blanco

    Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

    From Coravin. Meaty and savoury initially with a herbaceous underpin and a touch of sulphur. With time a little pear, lemon, waxy notes. Juicy, fleshy, those savoury meaty notes accompany waxy pear, slight lemon and a little stone fruit, touch of non intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish and a smidge of residual sugar. Creamy, slightly woody textured burr. Yum.

  • 2019 Isaac Fernández Selección Garnacha Campo de Borja Legado del Moncayo

    Spain, Aragón, Campo de Borja

    From Coravin. Rocky, earthy, red over black hued fruits, berry and cherry, touch of salinity and a little sweet spice. Juicy, tangy, red over black fruit, mineral tannins are quite coarse silk rasp. Non-intrusive alcohol warmth, finishes a little too quickly but perfectly pleasant, simple, quaffer.

  • 2020 Bodega Pirineos Somontano Principio Moristel

    Spain, Aragón, Somontano

    From Coravin. Smells dense, a little seaside note then black hued fruits, a little reductive note gets meaty with time. A little sour on the palate, black fruits, wild blackberry over sour black cherry, slightly woody tannins are drying, tight, chalky textured, persists long. Like the Legado del Moncayo it's fairly simple but pleasant. Another good mid-week wine

  • 2019 Serra & Barceló Terra Alta Aucalà

    Spain, Catalunya, Tarragona, Terra Alta

    From Coravin. Waxy, slight alcohol prickle, a little ripe lemon, kumquat, mandarin, a touch of cream, sulphur. Juicy, creamy texture, rich, ripe citrus fruit, tangy, alcohol warmth encroaches on the long finish but quite nice.

  • 2019 Blai Ferré i Just Priorat Billo

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    From Coravin. Slightly corky (?) rocky minerality, sour smelling black fruits and Ribena, a little savoury spice, slight raspberry underpin, earthy. That slightly cork taint note on the palate, more in the sour red fruit spectrum, cherry, chalky tannins with a mineral underpin, handles it's alcohol well.

    From Coravin. A little wood glue note blows off with time, sour black fruits smoky minerality, savoury spice,. Juicy, fleshy, black fruits are not so sour on the palate, rocky minerality, tannins are drying, chalky textured and woody and a little too much for the fruit. Hmm. Okayish.

    From Coravin. A little oak, cream, black hued fruits, berries, touch of sweet spice, mineral underpin. Juicy, tending to medium plus acidity, black hued fruits, plentiful woody tannins dry out the palate leaving a residual black fruit sheen, will need a lot of protein to work. Hmm

  • 2019 Bodegas Navarro-Lopez Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Tierracalar

    Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla

    From Coravin. Meaty strawberry, a little sweet spice, savoury underpin, simple nose, touch of cream and vanilla, strawberry grows with time in the glass. Fresh strawberry and slightly baked strawberry join slightly dusty woody tannins are sand paper textured, touch of bitterness on the finish <shrugs>

    From Coravin. Quite red cherry and cream, a little black berry and black pepper note, a touch of charcuterie, slight alcohol prickle. Juicy, adjusted acidity re cherry, muted black fruits, woody flavoured grainy tannins dry out the mid palate fruits persists with a lick of alcohol warmth. Meh.

    From Coravin. Initially wild ferment funkiness, wood glue, red hued fruits, tiny touch of oxidation settles a little with time showing slightly sour red berry fruit. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, slightly sour red hued fruits, berry, a little cranberry, slightly wood and grape drying tannins show black tea tannins, fruit persists long. Yum.

    From Coravin. Plenty of savoury spice and peppery notes and a little bacon fat, baked black fruits, liquorice, charcuterie, leather, saline. Juicy, herbaceous, bacon fat over baked red and black fruits, tannins are grapy and woody, persistent, quite finely textured though drying, fruit drops a little too quickly leaving bacon fat and a sense of loss. Kind of nice.

  • 2020 Celler del Roure Valencia Safrà

    From Coravin. Baked red berry; raspberry over strawberry, sweet spice, a little dried lavender and citrus note and a touch of savoury underpin, wetly enjoyable. Fleshy red fruit is slight muted, tannins negligible showing a silky raspberry to the mid palate fresh, alcohol warmth controlled. Smashable.

    From Coravin. Red hued berry fruit with a touch of plums, vanilla, sweet spice, a little candied note, with time some baked/dried herbs and fruit tea. Juicy, fleshy, red berry notes, and slightly plummy underpin, tannins are slightly drying a little talc textured, touch of vanilla, cream. Long, pleasant.

Gamey, meaty, savoury baked red berry fruits, woody, drying, slightly grainy tannins, fruit persists, it's a bit enamel dissolving but kind of interesting in a rustic way.

    All the nuts; walnuts; almonds, a little hazelnut, cream, caramel, toffee, apple, sweet spice, a little almond, vanilla, touch of digestive biscuit. Bone dry, saline, walnuts, a little green olive, savoury, tangy, touch of hard cheese, yeast extract, black coffee, very good. Long.

    From Coravin. Cream, raisins, red fruit jam, a little salinity, fig, walnuts, savoury underpin, sweet spices, a little lavender, caramel, candied peel, toffee apple. Juicy, savoury and sour, salted caramel, muted backed red fruit compote and dried raisins, plenty of talc textured tannic burr tugs at the palate with notes of dried wood, a little walnut, almond on the finish touch of residual sugar. Okay.

  • 1986 Bodegas Toro Albala Montilla-Moriles Don PX Gran Reserva

    From Coravin. Oof, black treacle, liquorice, lashings of sweet spice, a little balsamic underpin, alcohol prickle. Lusciously sweet, black treacle, liquorice, burnt sugar, ilk of cloves, woody tannins are softly textured, long, a little caramel, slightly nutty notes join on the finish. Not as heavy or cloying as precious examples I've had but no shrinking violet. Nice
