Shockingly still alive, this was wonderfully bright, just slightly lacking fuit intensity. Oddly enough, this wine was better on Day Two! While more advance, a rich butterscotch apple note was charming without seeming remotely tired.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
As dark as could be, and very mature aromas without seeming quite oxidized. Palate is much brighter with rich apple and quince, showing a spiced honeycomb character.
Small glass. Crunchy and bright, this is lemony and zesty with impressive balance. I have never tasting this before, but think this is a wine worth seeking out in the right vintages.
Small glass tasted double blind. Fully mature, clearly New World style Cab. Enough fruit, lots more earth. Not as much charm or nuance as I would have hoped for.
Small glass tasted blind. Ripe and fleshy, I thought this New World. Good richness with a trace of chocolate covered black cherries. I found this enjoyable, but others liked this more.
Small glass tasted blind. Clearly New World, but in the elegant style from a few decades back that is tough to find any more. Good weight and length, this is wonderfully balanced and textured with enough acidity to keep it fresh.
Small glass tasted blind. Oops, I thought this French. Red and black cherry with a charming combination of mature and fresh fruit. Very well textured, coming across as classically styled with good+ length.
Small glass tasted blind. This wine has no right to still be this good, and still this fresh. Black plum and cassis, this shows its New World (near-sweet) character, but is also lean, bright, and energetic.
Ripe and wonderfully spiced, this fooled half the blind tasters into thinking it ripe vintage Bordeaux from the 80s. Not powerful, but full of nooks and crannies. Oddly enough, this was just as good on Day Two, as more mint and eucalyptus emerged.

2020 Julien Fayard Sauvignon Blanc McGah Family Vineyard
USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Small taste. There is a lot to like here in terms of fruit intensity, but I also find it grassy and too warm a t the same time. Not my jam.

Small glass tasted blind. Clearly an old Bordeaux on the downslope with enough that is still interesting, but simple.

Small glass tasted blind. Mature black cherry and plum, this is easy but very fun still. Lots here, all well balanced. No upside.

Tannic and bitter with nothing interesting. I wonder if more air would have told us this is corked.
