Nose takes a while to get going. There is a little ground almond and later some peppery greenness that reminds me of cress. A little sliced apple too. Palate is fresh and limey there's a little sourdough breadiness and, after 20 mins in the glass, some Muscat-like grapiness. Disgorged late 2022 after 14 years on the lees.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Cracking mature white Puligny. Not a hint of undue oxidation. Nose has a beguiling limey freshness with a complementary sagey / chicken skin character. Oh what balance and mouthfeel. Palate has a pineapple core nod to tropicality and sweetness but it's all in balance. With some air, a hazelnut character emerges.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Clearly more youthful that its flight mate. There's a laser focussed lime oil character to the nose with some tarragon notes to contrast. A big future ahead of this; very refined and together.
Another good showing from this wine that has brought great pleasure over the last few years. There is a roasted meat and rosehip quality to the nose with a suggestion of ground pepper. Palate shows great freshness with some charming cranberry acidity and smoky richness. With air the nose develops a pomegranate character.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages
Bluer fruited than the Joliet, there is some forest floor leafiness and underbrush. Palate takes a while to open up but when it does there's a very well balanced wine with refreshing acidity and some onion skin savouriness. Good effort.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Lovely Nuits. Nose shows liquorice, smoke and some green bell pepper with a hint of sweet pea florality. Later the faintest bacon fat note emerges. Palate very correct and poised with perfect levels of acidity. After half an hour in the glass there is a hint of well done almond croissant. Cracking.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Sweeter nose than the Gros, this has grenadine and a dusting of cinnamon. Later some bonfire leafiness and some mahogany dresser. Palate savoury and very more-ish with a meaty savouriness complementing some ripe red fruits. Very fine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Redcurrant cordial and shitake tea nose here on pouring. Later notes of chestnut brazier with some sweet bacon and a couple of drops of pineapple juice. Palate rich and long with a banana leaf sweetness. Very fine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
A little reductive on pouring but this blow off to reveal blueberry fruit with some rosehip. Palate is cool fruited with some ground pepper and some blueberry coulis sweetness. Good stuff.
