Introduction

Phil had a spare ticket to this tasting and I was the first to put my hand up. They had a a few enomatics in the store at Uncle Dans so we had a quick look at a couple of Australian Shiraz after the tasting.

Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • NV Freixenet Cava Elyssia Gran Cuvee Brut

    Spain, Cava

Clean, medium minus intensity aromas, a little green apples, fresh herbs, muted bread yeast notes. Juicy, slightly tart acidity, plenty of bready yeast, touch of herbaceous underpin, softly textured leesy burr, finishes with very slight bitterness and a touch of alcohol warmth (despite claiming only 12%)

  • 2019 Pazo Pondal Rías Baixas Leira

    Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas

Medium minus intensity aromas of stone fruit, pear, clean, fruit forward. Softly juicy, pear, peach, tangy, touch of non-intrusive alcohol warmth. Hmm, lacks a little freshness/acid for me.

Closing

A pleasant tasting. The two whites lacked freshness, the reds all showed well.
