No disgorgement or much back label info. 3.5 grams of dosage I'm told. Aroma of buttered bread. Good coil of lemon oil, lime zest and some grapefruit. And while I perceived an earthy cherry note, I was humbled when revealed that this had no red fruit. Minerally finish. Enjoyed this.
When this was opened it had a distinctly smoky, aromatic. Much of this aroma relaxed out of the wine as it warmed up and I was able to work some 02 into the glass, which to me was replaced with a rye seed note and maybe a light honeysuckle. Ginger, yellow apple, spicy orange marmalade. The weight was lighter before the wine evolved, kind of dumb and closed and then expanded out nicely once the air allowed it to unfold.
Disgorged March 2022. Zero dose, 100% Chard. Paul was sitting next to me and after a few swirls and a moment to think, he nails the wine as Marguet--impressive. He and I have opened many over the years and the elevage signature is here, with the asian 5 spice and clove. I found the oak doing a nice seasoning of the wine, complementary. Lemony and earthy citrus with orange. All of it tangy. 5-spice with a finish of slatey mineral.
Couldn't read the disgorgement info as it has been partially wiped away. Ironically, I had just backfilled some of this a week prior so to have it included as one of the blinds was cool. 100% Chardonnay from Chavot. Floral aroma. Pineapple, green apple and saline, what I thought was in a lower dose style. Good density and concentration. Was coiled up early on and then when I went back for another pour when it wasn't so cold, it showed a cool mix of lemony tangerine. Say whatever we want about the 2017 vintage, this wine along with the Marguet Le Parc and Mousse SC Les Fortes Terres, wines we all had blind last night from the 2017 vintage, they all showed for me terrific.
January 2022 disgorgement, with just a .5 gram of dosage. 100% Pinot Meunier. This wine was really good last night. Very distinctive, driven by a structured, savory profile. Pear, spice, liquified minerality with a lengthy finish. I really dislike the SC bottle shape, and I have drank all of mine to alleviate them from my cellar. But this 2017, man, I wish I would have kept what I had, as it's damn good.
TCA strikes again. This was to be a bonus bottle, to close out the dinner. Served blind. The smart palates at the table flagged the TCA pretty fast. What a bummer.
