• 1998 Bodegas Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea

  Bottle that has been lying fifteen years in my little cellar. Cork softened, almost broken and with numerous traces of mold (pictured).
  Twenty-five years on and still retains a deep colour with a violet halo and a watery edges. Typicap nose of Pa Rioja wines with fleshy, cherrish notes of anthracite mineral, red berries, leather and sweet spices. Still in an austere vintage, a GR with a total aging of four years, no trace of oak. The palate has a velvety texture, a serious and distinguished wine. It retains a good acidity, is long and with grip. Extraordinary length and without any tannic barrier. It’s the kind of vintage I love. Sadly only a few come to appreciate these nuances.
  
  Botella que ha estado tumbada quince años en mi bodeguita. Corcho reblandecido, casi roto y con numerosas trazas de moho (en la imagen).
  Veinticinco años encima y todavía conserva un profundo color con un halo violáceo y un ribete acuoso. Típica nariz en vinos de La Rioja con notas de carne fresca, acerezado, mineral de antracita, bayas rojas, cuero y especias dulces. Aún siendo una añada austera, un gran reserva con un envejecimiento total de cuatro años, ni rastro del roble. Al paladar presenta una textura aterciopelada, un vino serio y de distinción. Conserva una buena acidez, es largo y con agarre. Extraordinaria longitud y sin ninguna barrera tánica. Es el tipo de añada que me encanta. Lamentablemente sólo unos pocos llegan a apreciar estos matices.

• 2009 Marcel Deiss Rouge

  Fifth of six. PnP before one winter lunch. Long, bland cork. More metallic than charming on the nose. Bold, fleshy, tomatoes, veggie even. All symptoms there's a few life ahead. On the palate the same story, light structure, little unbalanced, vegetables can aftertaste, unlinked acidity, vulgar monotous and boring at its best. Fortunately just one more bottle remaining. It is not the first time I found Deiss biodynamics don't work properly. Surely my entire fault.
  
  Quinta de seis. Descorchada antes de un almuerzo de invierno. Largo, corcho suave. Más metálico que encantador en nariz. Marcado, carnoso, tomates, para vegetariano incluso. Todos los síntomas de que hay poca vida por delante. Al paladar la misma historia, de estructura ligera, un poco desequilibrado, lata de verduras al retrogusto, acidez sin enganche, vulgar, monótono y aburrido en su mejor momento. Afortunadamente solo queda una botella más. No es la primera vez que encuentro que los biodinámicos de Deiss no funcionan. Seguramente es totalmente por mi culpa.

• 2003 Château Brane-Cantenac

  Becoming traditional at my home, bottle opened fourteen hours before lunch to slowly oxygenate. Without decanting. Cork in good condition but somewhat sparse in length I've to say. The Lurtons save on every field. The first impression on the nose was of a decided reduction and once well aerated presents feminine aromas representative of Margaux, namely rose petals, cassis broth, fruit yogourt of all forest berries, including a vegetable touch. Too linear to be considered aristocratic. On the palate it stands out for a velvety texture, a medium-bodied wine with an acidity and a balancing acidity, a very short finish for its supposed category. Acid aftertaste.
  No trace of the famous heat that those prophets proclaimed. It would be absurd to let it age any longer IMHO. Don't expect too much anyway.
  
  Como es tradicion en mi hogar, botella abierta catorce horas antes del almuerzo para que se oxigene lentamente. Sin decantar. Corcho en buen estado pero de una longitud un tanto escasa. Los Lurton ahorran en todos los campos. La primera impresión en nariz fue de una decidida reducción y una vez bien aireada presenta femeninos aromas representativos de Margaux, a saber, pétalos de rosa, caldo de cassis, yogourt de frutillos del bosque, inclusive un toque vegetal. Demasiado lineal para ser considerado aristocrático. En boca resalta por una textura aterciopelada, un vino de cuerpo medio con una acidez con una acidez equilibradora y un final muy corto para su supuesta categoría. Retrogusto ácido.
  Sin rastro del famoso calor que los profetas proclamaron. Sería absurdo dejarla envejecerla por más tiempo. No esperes demasiado de todos modos.

• 2005 Fernando Remírez de Ganuza Rioja Reserva

  More than ten years since the previous bottle. It’s been sleeping in my winecellar for over twelve years. Barely an hour breathing before lunch. Pristine cork. Dark colour with ruby flashes and orange edges. Initially on the nose it shows aromas of red blackberries, graphite, Italian green pepper or even licorice root. Good complexity certainly. On the palate it offers a masculine velvet texture, an excellent acidity that extends its permanence to the throat facilitating the appearance of saliva. Ease of vintage combined with tannins already tamed that come together in balance. Fortunately high volume of alcohol is well-integrated. Modernity say somebody. 'Deliciousity' I say. Terroir bottled with an elegant personality of its own. If you do not know the wines of this winery surely you are missing something good.
  
  Más de diez años desde la anterior botella. Ha estado durmiendo en mi bodeguita por más de doce años. Apenas una hora respirando antes del almuerzo. Corcho pristino. Color oscuro con destellos de rubí con bordes anaranjados. Inicialmente en nariz muestra aromas de moras rojas, grafito, pimiento verde italiano o incluso raíz de regaliz. Buena complejidad sin duda. Al paladar ofrece una masculina textura de terciopelo, una excelente acidez que alarga su permanencia ia hasta la garganta facilitando la aparicion de la saliva. Facilidad de la añada conjugada con unos taninos ya resureltos que se unen en equilibrio. Modernidad dicen algunos. 'Deliciosidad' digo yo. Terruño embotellado con una elegante personalidad propia. Si no conoces los vinos de esta bodega seguramente te estás perdiendo algo bueno.

• 2009 Domaine Jacques Prieur Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

  First of three. Considering for granted that everyone knows this wine comes from young vines from Grand Cru soils, discontinued and labeled merely as 1st Cru, this particular bottle would deserve the highest status. Please just consider it a GC from an extraordinary recent vintage, for example a 2020.
  Bottle that has been sleeping in the darkness of my modest cellar for almost twelve years and opened only half an hour before lunch. Cork in full shape. Translucent and at the same time bright ruby colour with orange edges. On the nose you can find that blunt force of a true GC, with precision and that failure to cover more and more. Delicious aromas of hawthorn blossom, very fleshy, sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cloves), marble dust and fried nettles. What a wonder of complexity. On the palate it shows the silky texture of a well-bodied wine without the structure enveloping in excess such a gift. Balanced and tasty, with a gastronomic acidity that accompanies the sip to the throat. As a wish, I would like more length. Very elegant fruity aftertaste. Considering what it is, it has been an almost unique experience.
  
  Primera de tres. Dando por descontado que todo el mundo sabe que este vino procede de viñas jóvenes de terrenos Grand Cru, descatalogado y etiquetado meramente como 1er Cru, está botella en concreto mereceria el estatus más alto. Bastaría con considerarla un GC de una extraordinaria añada reciente, por ejemplo un 2020.
  Botella que ha estado durmiendo en la oscuridad de mi bodeguita por casi doce años y abierta sólo media hora antes del almuerzo. Corcho en plena forma. Traslúcido y a la vez brillante color rubí con ribetes anaranjados. En nariz te encuentras de bruces la contundencia de un verdadero GC, con precisión y esa avería por abarcar más y más. Deliciosos aromas a flor de espino, muy de carne fresca, especias dulces (vainilla, canela, clavo), polvo de mármol y ortigas fritas. Maravilla de complejidad. Al paladar muestra la textura sedosa de un vino de bueno cuerpo sin que la estructura envuelva en exceso semejante regalo. Equilibrado y sabroso, con una gastronómica acidez que acompaña al sorbo hasta la garganta. Como anhelo, desearía más longitud. Frutoso retrogusto muy elegante. Considerando lo que es, ha sido una experiencia casi única.

  Alicante business lounge. From a new bottle. Stale nuts from old wood on the nose. On the palate the traditional complexity of a wine always undervalued for its low 0price. For me it is still one of the best value for money relationships on the market.

  Frank on the nose quite vegetal. On the palate it has some body, retains some acidity and a mineral aftertaste. Better than the previous tasting of this variety.

  Initially a little flat and light on the nose. Notes predominantly vegetable, aniseed. Simple on the palate with more acidity than volume.
  Sweet aftertaste despite its supposed dryness.

  Regusto con un punto dulce pese a su supuesta sequedad.

  By the glass. Aromatically rather various than complex full of notes of flowers like jasmine,or magnolia, maple even. Also lactics. Far away from what depth represents, sweet, without minerality, short and ridiculously boring. This is not an alternative ribeiro wine but a very ordinary one.
  
  Por copas. Aromáticamente más variado que complejo, lleno de notas de flores como jazmín o magnolia, arce incluso. También lácticos. Lejos de lo que representa la profundidad, dulce, sin mineralidad, corto y ridículamente aburrido. No se trata de un vino del ribeiro alternativo, sino de un vino muy corriente.

  By the glass. Produced by Miguel Domecq this Chardonnay based wine showed a floral and fruity side rather citrus than delicate. Fresh on the palate, long for what it is and really gastronomic. All yours Jancis.

  By the glass. Under the hand of Alejandro Fernández y Condado de Haza winery. Intense on the nose full of black fruit aromas, liquorice as well as sweet spices. Lactics and smokies balsamics from wood. On the palate first thing I thought was this wine needs to laying down for a long period of time. Basically tannic, powerful and fleshy. Long with a nutty aftertaste. Just give it time.
  
  Por copas. De la mano de Alejandro Fernández y la bodega Condado de Haza. Intenso en nariz lleno de aromas de fruta negra, regaliz así como de especias dulces. Lácticos y ahumados balsámicos de madera. Al paladar lo primero que pensé fue que este vino necesita reposar durante un largo período de tiempo. Básicamente tánico, potente y carnoso. Largo con un regusto a nuez. Solo dale tiempo.

  By the glass. Wine 100% mencia. 10 months in French and American oak barrels.
  On the nose, notes of red fruit and spices like black pepper stand out. Nothing to die for. Dry on the palate, unbalanced mellow texture and an intrusive acidity are your business card. After trying their white Maruxa I didn’t expect anything else
  
  Por copas. Vino 100% mencía. 10 meses en barricas de roble francés y americano.
  En nariz destacan las notas de fruta roja y las especias como la pimienta negra. Nada por lo que morir. Sequedad al paladar, textura melosa desequilibrada y una acidez intrusiva son su tarjeta de presentación. Después de probar su Maruxa blanco no esperaba otra cosa.

• 2018 Pago de La Jaraba La Mancha Azagador Crianza

  By the glass. Blend wine of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. One-year ageing in new 225 litre French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels. Alcohol content 13.5%.
  Basically ripe fruit on the nose with intense balsamic notes of roasted coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate. Without the slightest trace of finesse. The palate is powerful and with echoes of that ordinary nose. Final tannic and short. It was necessary create a Pago for such elaboration? Everything is being discredited.
  
  Por copas. Vino de mezcla de Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon y Merlot. Envejecimiento de un año en barricas nuevas de 225 litros de roble francés (70%) y americano (30%). Volumen alcohólico de un 13,5%.
  Básicamente fruta madura en nariz con intensas notas balsámicas de café tostado, regaliz y chocolate negro. Sin la menor traza de finura. Al paladar se muestra potente y con ecos de esa ordinaria nariz. Final tánico y corto. ¿ Era necesario un Pago para semejante elaboración? Todo se desprestigia.

• 2021 Teso La Monja Toro Romanico

  By the glass. Aged for 6 months in French oak barrels. Alcoholic volume of 14.5%. The lesser wine of the cellar offerings fruity notes of red berries and cherries along with other floral and balsamic. Juicy on the palate, with a fresh acidity and a finish with a clear tannic accent. Incipient typicality of Toro which will need the mandatory eight years of rest to show its true qualities.
  
  Por copas. Crianza de 6 meses en barricas de roble francés. Volumen alcohólico de 14,5%. El vino menor de la bodega que ofrece notas frutales de bayas rojas y de cerezas junto con otras florales y balsámicas. Jugoso en boca, de una fresca acidez y un final de un claro acento tánico. Incipiente tipicidad de Toro que necesitará los preceptivos ocho años de reposo para mostrar sus verdaderas cualidades.

• 2018 Bodegas Corral Rioja Don Jacobo Crianza

  By the glass. Blend wine of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Grenache, 5% Mazuelo aged for 18 months in American oak barrels plus 12 months in bottle. Bottle typically riojana in nose with the influx of red berries and sweet spices such as vanilla. The palate does not fall in love with any aspect, controlled acidity, discreet structure, without excessive length and a tannic finish. Only ordinary at its best. From this winery I still prefer their white wine.
  
  Por copas. Vino de mezcla de 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, 5% Mazuelo con un envejecimiento de 18 meses en barrica de roble americano más 12 meses en botella. Botella típicamente riojana en nariz con la afluencia de bayas rojas y especias dulces como la vainilla. Al paladar no enamora por ningún aspecto, controlada acidez, discreta estructura, sin una excesiva longitud y de un final tanico. Solamente ordinario en su mejor momento. De esta bodega sigo prefiriendo el vino blanco.

• NV Bodegas Júcar Memento Mori

  By the glass. From the omnipresent Bodegas Júcar of Torrejon de Ardoz in Madrid, this sample of El Corte Inglés a blend of Syrah, tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon. Remember that you are going to die does not seem the most suitable presentation slogan of this bottle. A soulless wine both in the nose and mouth. Aromas of fruit boom on the nose followed by heaviness and alcohol on the palate. Do not confuse with a Napa Cabernet or a wine from the Loire de Dauguenau. One thought that it was not allowed to repeat names in the same product, even using phrases in old Latin.
  
  Por copas. De la omnipresente Bodegas Júcar de Torrejon de Ardoz en Madrid, en esta muestra de El Corte Inglés un vino mezcla de Syrah, tempranillo y cabernet sauvignon. Recuerda que vas a morir no parece el lema de presentación más adecuado de esta botella. Un vino sin alma tanto en nariz como en boca. Aromas de bomba frutal en nariz seguidos de pesadez y alcohol al paladar. No confundir con un Cabernet de Napa ni con un vino del Loira de Dauguenau. Uno pensaba que que no estaba permitido repetir nombres en un mismo producto, incluso usado frases en Latin.

• NV Felix Solis Mucho Más

  By the glass. Sample from El Corte Inglés. Quite obvious and recurring mixture of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Syrah. Intense on the nose with memories of black blackberry compote and balsamic notes that are repeated in the mouth along with a dry texture, grip and tannin. So is alcohol. Maybe someone might be interested in such a brew. I doubt that unless his name is Kurtz.
  
  Por copas. Muestra de El Corte Inglés. Bastante obvia y recurrente mezcla de Tempranillo, Garnacha y Syrah. Intenso en nariz con recuerdos a compota de moras negras y notas balsámicas que se repiten en boca junto con una textura seca, de agarre y tanicidad. También alcohol. Quizás a alguien le pueda interesar semejante brebaje. Lo dudo salvo que se apellide Kurtz.

  By yhe glass. Blend wine of garnacha and tempranillo. Smoked and sweet spices coexist with other fruit notes. Boring and repetitive. The same thing in the mouth, heavy and linear but with good freshness.
  At times, a repulsive aftertaste.
  
  Por copas. Vino de mezcla de garnacha y tempranillo. Ahumados y especias dulces se convivan con otras notas frutales. Aburrido y repetitivo. Lo mismo en boca, pesado y lineal pero con buena frescura.
  Por momentos, un vino repulsivo en el postgusto.

• NV Finca La Luz Callejón del Crimen Red Blend Criminal

  By the glass. Another wine from Bodegas Júcar this time with Mendoza designation origin in Argentina. Coupage of Malbec 80% with Cabernet Sauvignon at 5%, Cabernet Franca another 5% and Petit Verdot at 10%. A dusty, smoky and austere production. Too one-dimensional for my taste. Simple and ordinary. Look for nothing special here except a decidedly alcoholic finish.
  
  Por copas. Otro vino de Bodegas Júcar pero esta vez con denominación de origen Mendoza en la Argentina. Coupage de Malbec 80% con Cabernet Sauvignon al 5%, Cabernet Franca otro 5% y Petit Verdot al 10%. Una elaboración polvorienta, ahumada y austera. Demasiado unidimensional para mi gusto. Simple y ordinario. No busque nada especial aquí salvo un final decididamente alcohólico.

  By the glass. You have to be unburdened to call for rebellion from a thick, concentrated and alcoholic profile. Smartphones make resource photos talk and tell their story. Good marketing, painful wine mix of a Shiraz 86%, Merlot 7%, Cabernet 7%. Californian what writes shiraz. All very symptomatic. Embushing among locals.

  Desde luego hay que ser desahogado para llamar a la rebelión desde un perfil grueso, concentrado y alcohólico. Los teléfonos inteligentes hacen que las fotos de los recursos se pongan a hablar y nos cuenten su historia. Buen marketing, penoso vino de mezcla de un Shiraz al 86%, Merlot 7%, Cabernet 7%. Californiano qué escribe shiraz. Todo muy sintomático.

• 2019 Three Finger Jack Cellars Rum Barrel Aged

  By the glass. Another sample of the seasonal offer of El Corte Inglés. The name of this winery supposedly refers to the figure of a Californian outlaw from the times of the gold rush. It is a blend of 66% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 7% Petit Syrah, 5% Tannat and 5% Tempranillo grapes. It is aged in French and American oak barrels, as well as in barrels previously used to age rum. It offers aromas of sweet spices such as vanilla, red berries in jam. In the mouth it is concentrated, lacking acidity, tannic and an overwhelmingly fruity aftertaste. Curiosity satisfied. That's all.

El nombre de esta bodega supuestamente hace referencia a la figura de un forajido californiano de los tiempos de la fiebre del oro. Se trata de un vino de mezcla elaborado con uvas en un 66% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 7% Petit Syrah, 5% Tannat y 5% Tempranillo. Está envejecido en barricas de roble francés y americano, así como en barricas utilizadas previamente para añejar ron. Ofrece aromas a especias dulces como la vainilla, bayas rojas en mermelada. En boca se muestra concentrado, falto de acidez, tánico y de un retrogusto abrumadoramente frutal. Curiosidad satisfecha. Eso es todo.

• 2018 Francis Ford Coppola Diamond Collection Red Blend

  By the glass. Blended wine of 43% Petit verdot, 15% Cabernet sauvignon, 14% Alicante bouschet, 12% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 7% Syrah with an alcoholic volume of 13.5%. Without complexity in nose, succession of notes of red berries with touches of fennel (!) and other vegetables. On the palate its predominant structure does not hide its alcoholic and tannic finish. No depth at all. Exaltation of boredom in 9 mm.
  
  Por copas. Vino de mezcla de un 43% Petit verdot, 15% Cabernet sauvignon, 14% Alicante bouschet, 12% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 7% Syrah con un volumen alcohólico del 13.5%. Sin complejidad en nariz, sucesión de notas de bayas rojas con toques de hinojo (!) y otros vegetales. Al paladar su predominante estructura no oculta su final alcohólico y tánica. Sin profundidad. Exaltación del aburrimiento en 9 mm.

• NV Bodegas Viña Vilano Full Flap

  By the glass. Blend of 40% Tempranillo with 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Three months in oak barrels. Elaborated by Bodegas Vilano in the town of Pedrosa de Duero in the middle of Ribera del Duero but renouncing the DO for the percentage of foreign grapes. Fullness of black and red berries in jam on the nose with a painful and non-integrated alcoholic strength of 14.5%. Full flap on the face of the taster.
  
  Por copas. Mezcla de un 40% de Tempranillo con un 40% de Merlot y un 20% de Cabernet Sauvignon. Tres meses en barrica de roble. Elaborado por Bodegas Vilano en la localidad de Pedrosa de Duero en plena Ribera del Duero pero renunciando a la DO por el porcentaje de uvas foráneas. Plenitud de bayas negras y rojas en confitura en nariz con un doloroso y falto de integración grado alcohólico del 14,5%. Alerones a tope en la cara del catador.

  By yhe glass. Blend of Nero d'Avola, Sangiovese and corvina grapes. Sample of El Corte Inglés' offer for this season. Cornucopia of red and black fruits on the nose along with notes of nuts. Little definition and full abundance. On the palate it is shown as a full-bodied wine, gently alcoholic with a tannic finish.
  Tasting the summer exuberance at the gates of winter. Alright. 99 Scored, what a joke.
  
  Por copas. Mezcla de Nero d'Avola, Sangiovese y corvina. Muestra de la oferta de El Corte Inglés para esta temporada. Cornucopia de frutos rojos y negros en nariz junto con notas de frutos secos. Poca definición y plena abundancia. En boca se muestra como un vino de gran cuerpo, suavemente alcohólico y de un tánico final.
  Catando la exuberancia veraniega a las puertas del invierno. De acuerdo. Puntuado con un 99, vaya broma.

  Long legs in the glass. Crimson colour with an aqueous violet edges. Aromas of blueberries and azaleas. Without rotundity complexity either. Palate is dry with good acidity a long and slightly alcoholic aftertaste. Despite is made exclusively with mencía grape and considering it is a low-end wine, not bad at all.
  
  Largas lágrimas en copa. Color carmesí con acuosos bordes violáceos. Aromas de arándanos azules y de azaleas. Sin rotundidad ni tampoco complejidad. Al paladar es seco, de buena acidez, de un regusto largo y ligeramente alcohólico. A pesar de estar elaborado exclusivamente con uva Mencía y considerando que es un vino de gama baja, no está del todo mal.

• 2016 Pagos Del Rey Toro Arnum crianza

  Generic conglomerate cork. Bright cherry colour. Long legs in the glass. Intense aromas of black berries with spices. Simple, without typicity. On the palate it stands out for its high acidity, a light texture combined with a tannic and slightly alcoholic finish after three years in the cellar of my parents. Wacky labels changing frequently.
  
  Corcho genérico de conglomerado. Brillante color cereza. Largas lágrimas en copa. Intensos aromas de bayas negras con especias. Simple, sin tipicidad. Al paladar destaca por su alta acidez, una textura ligera combinada con un final tanico y ligeramente alcohólico después de tres años en la bodeguita de mis padres. Extravagantes etiquetas que cambian constantemente.
