Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought yourself was poured.

I asked the persons who still had to bring their wine, to uncork the bottle 24 hours prior to the tasting and to double decant it 3 hours before the tasting.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Château Gloria 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Dark berries, cedar and licorice in the bouquet. On the palate dark berries like blackberries and licorice as well, some cherries, round acidity and tannin and beautiful bitterness. Youthful wine in its adolescent stage. Will evolve for the better, more elegant stage over the next 5+ years. 92+

Dark berries, some herbs and beautiful oak in the bouquet. On the palate the same berries, juicy and more round acidity than in the 2010, same for the tannin, some minerals. Overall a beautiful and friendly wine which is in its young maturity stage and which will be even more elegant 3 – 5+ years from now.

  • 2010 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou Croix de Beaucaillou 93 Points

  • 2010 La Dame de Montrose 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

More intense than Phelan Segur 2009 in the same flight. Beautiful dark berries and fresh notes in the bouquet. On the palate blackberries and cherries, bell pepper, cedar, juicy and good acidity and still firm tannin. Textbook St. Estephe and really beautiful, but still too young. Waiting another decade will probably be rewarding. 93++

  • 2009 Les Forts de Latour 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

WOW, what a wine! Complex and intriguing bouquet with a lot of dark berries, graphite and beautifully dosed oak. Same on the palate, concentrated and powerful, savory and animals, firm acidity and tannin and a great length. Already great complexity and finesse but that will continue to develop for the better over the next 10+ years. Truly a very great wine! 95 - 96
