Introduction
The Flock decided to explore Ribera del Duero that should at least be entering their drinking windows. Definitely some consistent character through these wines. We had a couple younger ringers as well. I tended to prefer the 'newer' style producers, surprisingly. A nice tasting.
All blind as usual.
1994 Bodegas Ismael Arroyo Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva Val Sotillo 86 Points

Group #12, My #11 - Full red with crimson edges. Slightly musty black fruit and coffee. Became a bit more sour with air. Big mouthful of acidic black fruit and some spice, but with some hard angles.

Full red/purple color. Big supperripe purple fruit with a canned note. Some found VA, but I didn't find it a big problem. Nice round full black juicy fruit with with structure - a bit ripe but decent.

Group #2, My #2 - Full opaque deep purple/black. Big nose of concentrated mocha olive black fruit with oak notes. Big mouthful of rich ripe oaky black fruit. Good structure and balance here too. Should improve substantially when/if the oak integrates.

Group #3, My #8 - Medium ruby red color. Big slightly warm red cherry spice nose. Big juicy black and red cherry fruit with ripe tannins. Good structure and potential.

Group #5, My #4 - Opaque red/black color. Nice full nose of black fruit and mint. Big round firm black fruit. Great stuffing with spicy finish but a bit one dimensional.

Group #7, My #7 - Opaque garnet red with lightening and some sediment. Medium sour cherry cough drop nose. Nice round soft spicy juicy black/red cherry fruit - a bit like a CdP.

Group #1, My #3 - Full deep crisp red color. Medium full earthy black currant with a lifted note - and a slight green hint. Mmmn, nice rich electric spicy chocolate palate with good balance and structure - firm. 93-94 pts.

Group #8, My #1 - Full coffee red color. Medium nose of red fruit and eucalyptus - clean. Nice rich mint spicy with chocolate notes - very nice lush and spicy. Not sure what the rest of the group missed in this wine, it is lovely. 94+ pts.
