Deep purple color. Loads of crushed black fruits and red and black licorice on the nose. On the palate, blackberry, blueberry, black plum, mild acid, soft tannins, and some tertiary flavors like mushroom and leather just beginning to show through, with a very long finish. Drink now if want to drink it at the peak of fruit, or wait another year or two if you want more earthiness.

Perfectly mature yet youthful nose displaying concentrated yellow fruit, apple, lemon curd, crème brulee, a hint of lint, sesame and limestone. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of perfectly ripe yellow fruit, rich and oily but also showing nice balance, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long concentrated yellow fruit driven finish. This was impressive in its youth and has developed beautifully.

seems a bit restrained at the moment. agree with other posts, probably better to hold a bit, year or so for it to really come together. seems to have the makings for it. score withheld. 91 now; imagine more like 94 to come. Lato '15 Larner stood out against it.

Still drinking well. This was the last but would reload for the right price.

4/10/2019 1:27:00 PM - I have had mixed results from this wine; good/very good early, now fading or not showing well (reductive notes?). Disappointing given a past showing and assumed potential. I have had issues with other bottles ('14 eg) and am reserving long term judgment.

Smooth with seamless tannins. Flavors of cherry and olive with the Grenache carrying the wine. The only thing holding it back was the nose was muted (took a while for the alcohol to burn off) and missing any earth or smoke that other LC bottlings have. I just wish it had more of a sense of "place" or depth as compared to just an easy drinking wine.

This wine continues to impress. It is in such a good spot right now.

Consistent with previous bottles. Vivid ruby in color, this wine reveals clearly defined black raspberry, Asian spices and minerals on the nose. The mouth feel brought overtly sweet tannins, cherry cola and violets. The finish was long and explosive with more black fruits intertwining with the acidity and tannins seamlessly. 14.4% abv.

Purchased for $60US, this wine is already drinking beautifully now and has the backbone and levels of acidity to drink well for another 10 years. A stunner.

The 2013 Napa Cabernet vintage is one-of-a-kind. The 2013 Lewis Cabernet Sauvignon is special, and drinking beautifully. 93.7 points. See previous notes regarding quality and character off this wine. Two thumbs up!

3/16/2016 7:53:00 AM - I see a number of reviews and am wary of over weighted assessments by one person, fearful reviewers may have associations with the winery. Other reviewers are in the ballpark, but it still raises concerns for me.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium ruby color, with garnet rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit such as blackberry, dark plum and blackcurrant, oak notes of cedar and smoke, sweet spice of clove, animal notes of farmyard, maturity notes of game. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium tannin of ripe and velvety texture, with medium (+) alcohol and medium (+) body. It has medium (+) flavors of black fruit such as blackberry, dark plum and blackcurrant, oak notes of cedar, and smoke, sweet spice of clove, maturity notes of game. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality St-Emilion with an intense nose showing good range of complexity, the wine is elegant, showing a robust structure yet still of finesse, with balance and a concentrated palate showing similar flavors and having also a fairly long finish. A good representation of the region and characters that demonstrate even in a less ideal vintage, the wine is ready to drink now but can maintain for another 2-3 years.

2011 Leonetti Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley

more

4/20/2014 - Motz wrote: NR

Standard, if somewhat potent, nose of varietally correct Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The bracing attack commands attention, imparting an initial impression of greatness. The mid palate rapidly alters any such expectation; it reveals prominent underripe, not pips and stems, greenness, biting, not bitter. The wine finishes with strong underripe acid, and light grainy tannins. From the mid palate back, the wine lacks focus; it runs the hither, thither, and yon gamut.

This is a wine of phases, fully ripe on the attack and underripe from the middle back. It reminded me of many big 2006 vintage wines from Napa and Sonoma that showed the same characteristics. This should age for a few years, but I do not think the underripe and unfocused elements will fade appreciably. This wine attests to the tremendously difficult 2011 vintage. If it were Bordeaux, it would sport a significantly lower price tag than previous vintages.
