8/22/2021 - epiphany Likes this wine: 90 pointsLove the funky nose. It’s a well balanced wine if a bit simple resulting from the silky smooth tannins. Could use a bit more structure. Good food wine. Will buy again for $15. |

2/16/2016 - CMN Likes this wine: 87 pointsDeep red. Nose of red berries, chalk, talcum powder and occasionally a Brett note that mostly disappeared with sufficient air. Flavors of red berries, chalk, grape, red currants and a green herbal note that makes itself known on the short finish. Good acidity and a light+ body, very easy drinking. At this stage needs a good decant. Smoother/better on day two. |

Fruit driven nose with a lot of cherry, red plum, almost candied fruits. Cassis and black cherry on palate, quite darker and richer than remembered, but with great acid, and light tannins making this easy to drink. Slight chocolate from somewhere sneaks in. Great value. I think "br" sums it up best. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2/11/2011 - valecnik wrote: 85 pointsWhat a curious wine. For a Cab Franc it tastes remarkably like Pinot Noir. Silky texture, some sweet spice, a hint of earth -- all strangely Pinot-like. I found this quite pleasing at first but in time I realized that if it does in fact taste like Pinot, it's a flabby Pinot lacking depth and acidity. Given the comments of others I now wonder if this was an off bottle. Since it was my first Anjou it's hard to say. |

4/21/2011 - Sakas Does not like this wine: 80 pointsI agree with valecnik's note below, I would have mistaken this for a Pinot Noir. There was some simple red fruit and some dark earth and it was fairly light bodied yet it was flabby and lacking interest with an astringent finish. It drank much like a very basic Bourgogne from a poor year. Tasted immediately upon opening, with an hour's decant, and the following day. I'll stick to Chinon from now on I think. 11/18/2004 - robs_r wrote: NRThis wine has a specific 'green' quality, might be typical for Cab Franc (I am just guessing). There is plenty of red fruit and a nice mouthfeel. It is very distinctive and probably not really a crowd pleaser but to me, a really good food wine. Drank the second half of the bottle two days after opening and it was still going strong. |

9/15/2005 - robs_r wrote: NROn the first day this was a bit too warm - very typical (as noted several times) slightly "green" cabernet nose, but otherwise quite uninteresting and broad. On the second day I tried it cooler- much better, fresher, the herbal notes were less strong, pretty red fruits on nose an palate, fresh acidity and long finish. A wine with character and a lot of life in it. Drink or hold. |

It's a light-bodied red good for light dishes and patio drinking. Very good value at $12/bottle if available. |

Medium bodied palate with moderate acidity. Has a nice richness on midpalate, but not too much. Nice berries, minerals, and finishes with a touch of tannin?!?! Finishes like some of the dry rose's from Loire. Interesting. |

2/22/2013 - isaacjamesbaker wrote: 89 pointsClear and bright ruby colored. Sour cherries and red plums on the nose, dried rose petals and the smell of two slate rock being smashed together. On the palate, this cab franc is smooth and soft, with fine-grain tannins and tangy acid, all very well-integrated. On the fruit side, this wine shows wild raspberry and dried cherry, but there's this great herbal component, like dried oregano and bay leaf. Great underlying sense of minerality throughout. If you've ever tasted mineral water straight out of a rock, you get a sense of what I'm talking about. Medium-length finish with notes of black tea. The fruit is quite restrained, and the other aspects are more pronounced, but if that's what you're looking for, this hits the spot. I love Baumard's whites and dessert wines, and I'm interested in trying other vintages of this Anjou rouge. |
