4/26/2023 - VAGenius Likes this wine: 91 pointsUnusual nose of goldenrod, honeycomb, overripe pear, hay, and white lilac. Somewhat dilute apple on the plate with lemon meringue, lemon peel, and tangerine zest. Savory finish with exotic herbs, acidity, and tart citrus. We liked it this time. |

The palette also has this cask cider element, plus a lot of minerality and sharp acidity. A touch of creaminess on the mid palette and finish just smoothes out the rough edges nicely. I like it, but I imagine this is a marmite wine for most. |

5/5/2023 - Brian Glas Likes this wine: 92 pointsTasted after 40 minutes of air. Medium gold color. Some wet gravel on the nose. Tangy apple fruit on the palate. Lime. Saline. Interest mid palate lift. Still tight and needs time to open. Quite a bit going on here. |

1/31/2020 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: 93 pointsThe same impressions as in my previous note. Elegant and refined with good acidity and fine grained tannins. Drinking well now, it's a little austere and closed and should open up in 3-5+ more years. Excellent! |

8/13/2019 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: 93 pointsFrom low yielding 50 - 70 year old Nerello Mascalese (98%) and Nerello Cappuccio (2%) vines, high up on Mount Etna (850 - 900 metres above sea level). Northern exposure and a volcanic soil (sand, pumice and volcanic ash). Often - as here - it is the most elegant, intense and austere of the Terre Nere Rossos, and a favourite in the line-up for me. Drunk over three evenings, during which it barely changed. Light, bright ruby, moving to garnet colour around the rim. An attractive, fine, chalky and perfumed bouquet. Fresh raspberries, blackberries and tart cherries. A touch of tar, rocky minerals and rose perfumes. In the mouth, the first impression is of refreshing, persistent acidity, the fruit seeming relatively refined, elegant and crystalline. Sleek and satiny with slatey minerals. A melange of red and black fruit, particularly cranberries, wild blackberries and those tart cherries, with sage and other dried herbs. Precise and focussed. Fine grained but firm tannins. Serious structure. A little closed. Better in 5+ years. An excellent vintage! |

8/7/2019 - Eric Guido Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe bouquet displayed a pretty mix of mineral-tinged strawberry, hints of smoke, dusty, dried red florals, and a zest of orange. On the palate, soft, plush textures flooded the senses with a mix of wild strawberry, tart cherry, and drenching minerality, as brisk acids maintained freshness throughout, even as youthful tannins mounted toward the finale. The finish was long, dry, structured--youthful, showing tart wild berry fruit, hints of plum, wild herbs and spice with a resonating buzz of acid and tannin lingering throughout. The '16 Guardiola is like a well-muscled ballerina. |

1/26/2019 - jrick Likes this wine: 93 pointsReally up my alley - like a cool climate nebbiolo, floral with violet and roses, a little tar, a lot of red fruit - red currant, strawberry, orange. Tannins are fine and but persistent, but not mouthfilling like for nebbiolo. Acidity is good and gives the wine just the right lift. Sure it is young, but for me thoroughly enjoyable. |

10/22/2018 - InternationalWineReport wrote: 93 pointsSourced from the Guardiola Cru, which sits at the highest elevation, ranging from 800 to almost 1,000 meters and consists of grey/black volcanic sand, basaltic pebbles, a touch of ash. This unique terroir gives the wine a distinct character, which takes center stage. As this begins to unwind it releases pretty aromas of wild red berries, cherries and cassis, which are laced with smoke, fresh roses and eucalyptus notes that all take shape beautifully. On the palate this shows wonderful elegance and refinement, with fine, silky tannins and gorgeous acidity. Everything comes together seamlessly on the finish, which displays wonderful vibrancy and length. Overall, this is a brilliant wine which certianly has a remaekable future ahead. 98% Nerello Mascalese and 2% Nerello Cappuccio, from between 50 and 70 years old. |

3/20/2018 - Eric Guido Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe bouquet was gorgeous with a display of floral and herbal infused black cherry, hints of spiced orange peel and minerals. On the palate, I found velvety textures with wonderful lift as tart cherry and savory herbs washed across the senses, becoming almost weightless, giving way to zesty acids and the onset of fine tannin. The finish was long, showing fresh red fruits, minerals, inner floral tones and a complex web of tannin, which was nearly enveloped by the Guardiola’s beautifully pure and very feminine fruit. |

2/11/2024 - Lanzelot Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe color is pale ruby-garnet. On the nose there are pronounced aromas of strawberries, dark cherries, kirsch, little graphite and tobacco. The acidity is high. The tannins are also high and very silky. The wine is medium bodied und has great length. The flavors on the palate are similar to the nose and also pronounced. Glass I used: Riedel Veritas New World Pinot Noir |

1/5/2024 - Lype Likes this wine: NRClassy, inviting bouquet. The palate is savory, a mixture of intense and effortless, crushed cherries, spices, licorice, minerals, charcoal and smoke. Tannins dry the roof of mouth, oak is fully melted into the mix, which is just lovely. Long mouth drying finish. Nicely accessible now and one cannot deny that this is convincing but, at least at this point, did not quite reach the next level I was hoping for. I liked it very much, though. Cannot wait to open a bottle of 2020 and a bit later 2021. |
