A year ago I used to love these, but lately the wood is really getting to me. Sure enough, I stick my nose in the glass, and this is oozing toast and butter. Reluctantly I take a taste and there is the toast, but oh what a luscious body to this wine. And then the zingy acidity kicks in and this thing is alive in my mouth with a really powerful finish. Wow, this is a CA-Chard that I like. And so against everything in me I rated this as a 90 point wine and was even more pleased when I realize I have my own bottle of this down in the cellar. As an aside, I have to say that I have loved every bottle of wine I have ever tasted from Dehlinger (Pinot, Chard and Syrah) |

This leans a bit more toward the tropical fruit profile that I had expected. Still, this has a sense of balance due to good acidity and a long finish. The one fault in my opinion is that it fiishes excessively hot at 13.8% alcohol. This is a difficult wine for me to rate. There is inherent quality here but it is not of my liking stylistically. It is missing grace that I find typical in Cali chards. I just can't drink it. After one glass, I actually poured this down the drain. Others will love it. |

On the palate this has excellent minerality, some green apple, and that classic Dehlinger acidity. This has a long, mouth-watering finish. |

On the palate this wine was superb - flavors matched the nose. Super structure - great acidity to balance the fruit and spice. Drunk from magnum. |

Showing just the outer edges of primary flavors now. Hold now.. drink other '03s possibly in the next 2 or 3 years. Very good now with definitie improvement on the way. Good acid, lots of fruit, ripe tannins means a bright future. |

10/30/2005 - en_kierkegaa wrote: 86 pointsStraight ruby on color. Clearly hot on nose when 1st opened. THIS WINE NEEDS AT LEAST 10-15 mins to block the OH off. Fruit forward candied cherry on nose combined slightly with a spicy light rhubarb note. Maybe a little strawberry. Very soft oak. Softness predominates over tannins (which are very light) on the palate, but still has a hint of spicyness. I wanted more than heat and fruit for this price (points off for this). I expected a little bit of subtlety out of this wine for the price, and it has little. Concentration of flavors is off here a little as well. |
