8/9/2016 - kakpoo wrote: 93 pointsanother home run bottle of Saint Laurent cab, with crisp, ripe fruit, some gentle tobacco notes and a balance that only comes with hitting a wine in its aging sweet-spot. The only thing that separates this from much more expensive wines is its lack of complexity. But, in "deliciousness" this was hard to savor because it was so tasty....the bottle didn't last more than 2 hours before we emptied it. I'm almost embarrassed to give this wine a 93 because it will undermine my credibility, but this bottle was that good. Based on the balance this has at the moment, I don't see this improving anymore. Its still has some soft tannins and light acid on the finish so its certainly not dying, but I'm going to drink the rest of mine now while the wine is singing. |

Opens with tons of spicy dark berries, some tarry notes, a nice earthy component, a touch of coffee, and smokey licorice. Based on previous tasting notes, this seems to be aging nicely, gaining complexity, and improving. Definitely in a great place right now with lots of life left. Even better on day 2! |

Even more impressed with second tasting. I had to rate this tasting a point higher due to that intoxicating bouquet and i timed finish with a stopwatch. |

7/25/2012 - Champagneinhand wrote: 92 pointsOkay, This has been resting long enough for any bottle shock to wear off. I also served it around 64F and it really shined well. The dark purple opaque wine had a deep nose of black and blue fruits along with a bit of ground peppercorn, plus a little bit of provencal herbs. On the palate this was similar with a mouth coating smooth tannin coating your teeth afterward in purple with some mineral and good acid integration. There was a hint of dark chocolate from the aging in oak for a bit before bottling. Decent, but not a super long finish. Wonderful texture. |

2005 Saint-Laurent Syrah Reserve MrachekWahluke Slope more |
7/8/2013 - kanjimoti wrote: 91 pointsThe Saint Laurent reserve syrah has more of a red tinge than I'm used to, being more familiar with syrahs dark as night. On the nose this offers up so much complexity with spicy clove, earthy clay, creme brulee, glycerin, cinnamon and nutmeg, and dark fruits that are a bit smudged and baked. For all its ripeness this doesn't come across as heavy. The label doesn't say what type of oak was used but I believe it's French, which I appreciate. I don't miss the pudgy vanilla aspect I get with American oak. This really is a ringer for a Northern Rhone, perhaps Cornas, classier and less rustic than any Crozes I've ever had. The balance here is impeccable. I think the fruit will start to decay in the next 18 to 24 months so I suggest enjoying this by summer, 2015. Killer juice. |

10/13/2011 - Champagneinhand wrote: 91 pointsSo I knew I was popping this syrah way to early, but couldn't resist. After decanting, the wine seemed a bit shutdown even after 3 hours. The nose was of red fruit and heavy new oak. Big chewy tannins and the crisp acid made me think at least another 3 years. I left in the decanter all night and this wine had a different story to tell. Bright and vibrant red fruit, mainly dark cherry, pie cherries, cranberry and red currants spilled from the glass. It also had Thanksgiving spices of black pepper, mace, sage and some thyme. There was still oak needing to integrate but a vanilla extract was present. Long finish where the spices and tannins predominate. The wine was a deep dark ruby and very deep. Again I'll wait another couple of years before I try another. Massive potential. |

Rich tobacco/chocolate aromas, a balanced earthen berry forward and a strong but smooth finish - no tartness, very little residue, fantastic legs. This wine aged very well and was worth the wait! |

5/21/2007 - Champagneinhand wrote: 91 pointsRan upon this little gem in a quaint Central Washington tasting house. Day 1- Most beautiful nose I have found in a Washington Syrah, complex floral bouquet invites you back for multiple smellings. Raspberry and floral notes beckon you to drink. The taste doesn't dissapoint, creamy well balanced tannins coat your tounge while the new french oak lingers in your mouth for a long complex finish. Do not confuse this with shiraz, because this is all French-style Syrah. Drink over the next 2 years. |

5/2/2013 - khmark7 wrote: 91 pointsPeople are missing out on this wine. Seriously a nice surprise. Love the aromatics and this has perfect balance and a nice finish that packs a lot of flavor. All this while retaining acidity and typical character for the grape. I might be underscoring this, unfortunately I don't drink all that many Chablis or white Burgundy, much less Washington Chard to be a better judge. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 9/4/2014 - Champagneinhand Likes this wine: 91 pointsI am utterly shocked by this wine. I consumed a second bottle because the first one was so easy drinking and the wine was so inexpensive. Why I am blown away was that I have had a glass or two from this bottle over four full days and it has just stayed balanced. Full bright red cherries, no harsh green notes, the tannins kick up a level after day two, but aren't out of balance wit the wine or the acid/mineral combination. Again some dark chocolate secondaries from the light oak touch. i can't believe this held together with just a cork and fridge, no argon, no vaccu-vin and a steal for under $15. |

Full bodied, rich, ripe and lush on the palate with plenty of structure. Nice, long-ish fruity finish. There is a lot of bordeaux-likeness in the flavors and texture. Not sure why others scores are so much lower -- this was a gorgeous bottle with zero faults and lots to like.. Cannot believe I bought this for about $20 - drinks like it is $50+. 91+ |

8/31/2014 - Champagneinhand Likes this wine: 91 pointsWow, this was a very nice drinking wine on a Saturday night with burgers. Very deep dark color of deep red, which matched the scent of deep dark red cherry in a slightly reductive fruit filled wine, with adequate and silky tannins some mineral and a lower acid than most but this drank incredibly silky. Not a whole lot of secondary notes, not smelling or tasting any vegetals, but some black tea and no noticeable oak, but its integrated already as a touch of dark chocolate. Nice finish too. Compared to the 2007, which was heavily oaked and still a bit unruly, this is open for business and a steal. I hope DP has more left. |

4/28/2013 - rickspicks wrote: 91 pointsLovely full nose of black currant and dark cherry, earth, smoke and minerals. Licorice after an hour or so. On the palate, some hints of coffee and pepper emerge - rather bordeaux-like in flavor. Full and rich texture, and also with plenty of structure. Velvety, creamy, lush mouthfeel, but not overdone. Medium +, rich, fruity finish. This is a pretty classy wine that drinks very easy and has a lot of depth and intensity. Tastes and drinks like there is a lot of merlot in the mix. Reminds me of a Right Bank bordeaux. 91+ |
