Pop and pour. 100% Gaglioppo. Arromatics are lush, almost candied raspberry with some funk (animal fur) and spice. One friend says it smells like Central Coast Pinot Noir. At first it shows nicely on the palate with some concentrated flavors, balanced acidity and smooth texture. With air, the tannins begin to clamp down. Needs a few years to integrate. A steal at $17.

This is a fantastic prosecco. There is actually some complexity here. Aromas of honeysuckle and freshly baked biscuits waft from the glass. The palate has some richly appointed fruit, slightly sweet, with a fine core of acidity to carry it all to a delightfully loitering finish. I need to try the cartizze now.

Here's my latest sushi wine discovery. 100% Pecorino which somewhat unusual as you usually find something else in the blend (Trebbiano, Passerina). Imagine if you took a great Muscadet like the Pepiere Briords, left it to age it's lees you would wind up with something close to the Le Merlettaie. With bright citrus, saline and a slight nutty component to both nose and palate. What makes this wine go up a notch is the richness and "pop' of the fruit on the palate. It's much racier than othe Pecorino based wines I've tried. Paired really nicely at the sushi bar, especially the with the Tai (Sea Bream with some wasabi and sea salt).

We popped this for dinner last week (Monday). It was nice but wound up tight and pretty unforgiving. Revisited the remaining 1/3 on Friday (4 days later) and today and the wine is magnificent. Fruit is lovely, lemons and flowers. There's stones and minerals. Laser acidity. Pure and precise flavors with a terrific lengthy finish. Great qpr wine.

I don''t see this shutting down and in fact will likely mature quicker than more structured vintages. The fruit is just so pretty right now.

This wine is just getting better and better. It is easily the greatest cru Beaujolais I've ever enjoyed. This grand cru Beaujolais. Sort of Gevreyish. A wine that makes you sit up and take notice. Amazing aromas of asian spice, cinnamon, white pepper and dark cherry fruits that shift and morph over the course of the night. The palate is broad and layered with the wonderful Gamay funk of earth and stone. Lively acidity and minerals fill out the initial flavors, then sappy red fruits coat the midpalate. Really nice length on the finish. Just a georgous wine that is so enjoyable at this point. I have 2 bottles left and hope to God I can hold off to see how they develop. It's wines like this that make my day. The '07 is special. The '08 is not so special. We enjoyed this with crispy pork belly with shelled beans, cippolini onions, roasted garlic, baby carrots anda wonderful sauce. Also had Wagyu beef loin with roasted fingerlings and creamed spinach. YUM!!!

Volnays at Bistro Verdu: Started off with considerable funk in the nose that eventually blew off revealing a wonderful nose of spices. The palate shows some red fruits surrounded by damp earth and sous bois. Big structured wine that, IMHO, still needs time.

One of our favorite sushi wines. Consistent bottle with complex aromas and a touch of diesel. A smooth velvet texture and long finish with lychee, moss and chestnuts lingering. I'm a fan of this wine and the amazing price tag ($15) is easily one of the great deals ever. Only one more bottle left. I'll probably have it this year.

Very tight and closed. Some musty notes give the impression of TCA, but this never really manifests. By the end of the night this is showing a bit more expressive with cherry notes and oak.

What a shockingly terrific wine! Cabernet Sauvignon from Sudtirol. A beautifully nuanced melange of cedar, cassis and pencil shavings. With air, more complexity emerges in savory, herbal notes. Textbook stuff. A great ringer for well aged, old school CA cab. One of those wines you think you catch at its zenith. I think this retailed for $30.

Sadly, this bottle was unbalanced and dull. Subdued aromas with a prune and dark fruits. There is a persistent and unpleasant bitterness that overwhelms any discernible fruit flavors. Bummer. Will open the 07 RRV shortly.

Virtual WBers tasting: P’N'P. Open aromatics out of the gate. Some definite sweet and sour red fruits, perhaps raspberry. There's a slight high tone sweet note on the nose. The aromatics just pour out of the glass within 1.5 hrs. The wine enters with a lovely, even, and somewhat elegant texture. All this and the fruit is still somewhat primary flavors without a lot of tertiary notes. Red fruited, sour cherry meets raspberry flavors. The mid palate is full and carries through to a long lingering finish. You would not mistake this for anything but what it is. The Sonoma coast is smiling.

I've seen the notes over time regarding oxidation and I believe TRB has gone on record to explain that O2 was introduced, unintentionally, during pre-bottling. Whatever the case may be, this bottle from magnum, was glorious. One of the best CA Chard experiences I can remember. Wonderfully aromatic with a profound balance of richness, acid and length. Lemon curd, with the occasional pineapple flavors and a very complex nose. It seemed very Meursault 1er Cru to me in character (think Matrot Perrieres without the premox). This bottle never let up over the course of the evening. I kept going back to it all night and with 13 people around, not a drop left. Divine stuff!

This is still a relatively young Brut. Quite rich but not heavy in the least bit. Butterscotch, baked breads and green apples on the nose that improve and show greater intensity after a few hours. Flavors continue on the palate with a pronounced acidity that settles in time. The bead is fine and non intrusive. This is a superb wine that should develop into a great wine.

Decanted for about 1-1.5 hours. Lots of hype on the RP 100 pointer. It is a massive, well endowed wine that is just loaded with ripe-bordering on over-ripe fruit. It is massively tannic and just enormous in its texture, flavors and structure. A CdP on steroids is not an exaggeration. No doubt this wine needs extended cellaring before it remotely resembles a CdP. It's not my style, but could certainly prove to be a good wine once the multiple layers of fat are shed. Judgment reserved.

Super young and tight initially. Tart, sour fruit on my first taste. Shy aromatics. I even allowed the last glass to warm up which can bring out the profile, but not tonight. This barely budges over the course of an hour and a half. My other bottles will get at least a year of rest.
