9/11/2021 - kfrench150 Likes this wine: 98 pointsFrom magnum. Fully soaked cork that broke on extraction and then proceeded to crumble to pieces once out of the bottle. Full, deep garnet in colour fading to a orange pekoe tea rim. Long and slow legs coat the inside of the glass. Compelling and complex nose of dried red berries, sour cherry, rosehip, aniseed, sandlewood and tar. Not at all earthy or funky as would be expected of such an old CCR. So smooth and full of sweet, dried red fruits on the palate. Medium full bodied, lots of fruit extract and glycerine, high but dissolved tannin and overall lovely balance from front to back of the palate. The flavours are suitable rich and complex as intimated by the nose. Lots of red cherry, red fruit leather, black tea, sandlewood, blonde stone dust and dried fennel. Very dry finish and it is long and lingering with just the right amount of astringent tannins and a finishing little bitter nip on the tip of the tongue as a reminder that this wine is in control. Stunning! |

It’s not a muscular powerhouse more of an intellectual wine that captivates and engages one’s senses. There’s an energetic acidity holding everything together with savoury and herbaceous flavours and ripe fruits. Impeccably balanced a major triumph and a wine that gets you talking .Decanted two hours beforehand with an aerator. Ready to drink. |

The sour-sweet style is intact, with an earthy depth and crispness that really makes the balance pristine. Still a medium-bodied wine. |

Something slightly floral, too. Excellent! Mouth: Excellent expressiveness and length. Excellent tannins and acidity which contributes to the excellent mouthfeel that can only described as silky. Can be enjoyed now or stored for many years. |

An hour later... fully mature colour of ruby red with a garnet and orange tinged rim. Only slight funk remaining on the nose. More so lovely aromas of soft leather, cedar, dried cranberry, dried cherry, dried herbs, sous bois, and red plum. Refined, old school wine! The palate follows the nose with dried red fruits and herbs, touches of licorice, sandalwood, compost and saddle leather fill out the medium bodied and sweet impression of fruit. No tannins left - just a perfect blending of structure. This is a beautiful, beautiful wine. Long, dry, smooth, dried red fruit, clean finish. Sophisticated and sensual at the same time! |

Also cocoa powder, smoked meat, cigar box and dusty earth. Layers of interwoven and integrated aromas entice. Full on the palate. Super smooth with polished tannins. Perfectly ripe fruit. The flavours are all blackberry, black cherry and black plum. Even black currants emerge with time. Very concentrated. Great acidity. Feels dry on the finish but there is enough fruit to bury the tannins which are trying to emerge. Excellent stuff! Crazy good for something so young! This has the structure to go for decades. Solid 95 pointer! |

Oak aged cherries, old leather, slight merde, dried red berries, dried herbs and more on the nose. Silky smooth in the mouth. Dried cherry and cranberry, leather, cedar bark, warm red dust and tingly tannins enrobe your entire mouth. Very dry finish that is quite long and surprisingly still a bit tannic. |

Nose has so much going on...red fruits mixed in with leather, smoke, hints of dark chocolate, light balsamic and dry forest. Probably more. Perfect on the palate, some acidity which gives it a nice freshness but doesn’t overpower. Had it 18 months ago and it was too young. Great spot now. I have many more which I’ll patiently drink over a few years. |
